Strategies for effective New Year's Resolutions

Webmin

350px-Postcards2CardsNewYearsResolution1915.jpg
Each new year many individuals come up with resolutions.

A new year resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goal, projects, or the reforming of a habit.

Here are seven strategies for Highly Effective New Years Resolutions:

1. Know Your Why. For a resolution to stick, it has to be aligned with your core values. We all want to look better or get richer, but your resolutions have to go beyond superficial desires and connect with what truly matters most to you. In other words, you have to "Know your why" and feel truly passionate about the goals you set for yourself. If you don't, then when the going gets tough or your alarm goes off at 5:30am, you won't have the resolve to stick to your plan. Connect your resolutions to those things that give you a deeper sense of purpose and align with your core values. When your resolutions connect to a deeper sense of purpose, it compels you not to think small or play safe, but to dig deep and stay the course when the going gets tough - no matter how many hurdles.

2. Be Specific. Resolutions to 'eat better, get fitter, be happier, relax more or have better life balance' are doomed for failure because they lack specificity. The more specific you are, the more likely you will be able to succeed. Describe your goals and resolutions in ways that allow you to track your progress and measure your success. For instance, if you want to build a better relationship with your partner, schedule at least one date night per month, or, as I've done with my husband, one weekend away - sans kids - per year. Likewise if you're committed to a better health and exercise regime, schedule how many workouts you'll fit into each week.

3. Don't Just Think It, Ink it! A Stanford University study found that when people wrote down their goal, it increased the probability of them achieving it by over 70%. But don't just write down the specific goal, write down how you will feel when you've accomplished it. When you have finished penning your desires, jot down on sticky pads the words that inspire you most about your goal and put them around your home/office to remind you of why you are committed to doing what it takes to bring your goal into reality.

4. Design Your Environment. Never underestimate the power of your environment to support or sabotage your success. Design your environment so that it's hard NOT to do what you resolved. Create a progress chart, recruit a cheer squad among your family and friends, find someone to hold you accountable, hire a trainer, join a group, create a blog. Likewise, if there are people or things in your life that pull you down or off track, address them directly and set whatever boundaries you know you will need up front.

5. Narrow Your Efforts. Trying to do too many things at once can make you so unfocused that you just bounce around like Tigger on Red Bull, not quite sure which direction you are going. Set yourself up for success and start with JUST ONE MAJOR UNDERTAKING come January 1st. Then break that goal down into small bite size steps. Small steps, strong start!

6. Focus On The Process. It's easy to get caught up in an initial wave of enthusiasm, only to come crashing down when your initial efforts don't produce immediate and amazing results. So focus on the process itself, and develop greater competence of the actual activity, habit or skill you want to acquire. For instance, if you want to become more fit, focus on being able to jog a little bit further every time you go for a walk, rather than being able to run 5 miles within a week. PERSISTENCE ALWAYS PAYS OFF.

7. Forgive Your Failures. Your setbacks and failures will not define your success in the year ahead or any year. HOW YOU RESPOND WILL. If you happen to mess up, lose your resolve, press the snooze button or revert to a familiar well-practiced behavior, don't beat up on yourself. Okay, so you didn't get to the gym like you'd planned. How about 5 minutes of stretching? When it comes to slipping up and tripping up, you are in good company. It happens to everyone. Just don't let your mishaps, setbacks and failures mean more than they do. Reflect on the lessons they hold, make adjustments accordingly, then tap your inner John Wayne and get back in the saddle. Life rewards those who work at it.

Each year downtown Kingston comes alive on New Years Eve with the sound of fireworks. Well this year, for the very first time, Dancehall deejay Busy Signal will ignite the "Fireworks on the Waterfront"  stage with a performance that will signal the start of 2013.

When his management received the call asking for him to be a part of this annual event, Busy did not hesitate to accept the offer and waive all performance fees. Fresh off his memorable  homecoming celebration at "Sting" that had everyone talking, Busy wants to do more for his country and perform for those who he knew supported him through his recent incarceration. He  promises to continue the positive flow of energy that the Jamaican public deserves not only through his music but in his overall delivery.

"Performing downtown for families at this show and being there to bring in 2013 with Jamaica is just a blessing - I'm really looking forward to it" stated Signal.

Since his return to the island in November, Busy Signal has been in demand both locally and overseas and he expects 2013 to be quite an exceptional year and of course - he is more than ready.

First gay-friendly 'Queen' James Bible released

Webmin

gay-friendly-queen-james-bible.jpg
To resolve the "interpretive ambiguity in the Bible as it pertains to homosexuality", the world's first "gay Bible" has been released claiming to have finally translated the Christian holy texts correctly.

"You can't choose your sexuality, but you can choose Jesus." The online description of "The Queen James Bible" suggests "now you can choose a Bible, too."

The new version of the Bible owes its name to King James I, who is described as a "well-known bisexual".

According to the writers, "homosexuality was first mentioned in the Bible in 1946 in the Revised Standard Version. There is no mention of or reference to homosexuality in any Bible prior to this - only interpretations have been made."

"Anti-LGBT Bible interpretations commonly cite only eight verses in the Bible that they interpret to mean homosexuality is a sin; eight verses in a book of thousands! The Queen James Bible seeks to resolve interpretive ambiguity in the Bible as it pertains to homosexuality: We edited those eight verses in a way that makes homophobic interpretations impossible," says the statement on the Bible's website.

Meanwhile, according to Catholic Online, The Queen James Bible "seeks to legitimize the homosexual equivalency movement by changing the language of the Bible."

"Unfortunately, what they have succeeded in doing is misrepresenting the word of God. Nowhere in Scripture does God condemn any of his children who come to him in loving faith. What scripture does condemn are specific immoral acts, including sexual congress outside the context of marriage which can only exist between one man and one woman."

The online Catholic News and Information Center noted that "in addition to changing scriptures throughout the Bible, the authors of the book claim that King James I was bisexual, despite the fact there is no concrete historical evidence to verify this."

"The claim that the Bible is imperfect is simply a postmodern assessment, the well-known by-product of a bankrupt worldview," Catholic Online wrapped up.

1) How does it feel to win the Miss Humanity International pageant?

Winning Miss Humanity International is such a humbling victory; I worked really hard so it feels great that it paid off. This pageant promotes selflessness and humanity, it also enforces the specific obligations that come with being a positive role model and I'm ready to embark on this incredible journey.

2) What were the contestants judged on and going in the competition were you always confident that you would be victorious?

The categories were: swim wear, evening wear, national costume, national culture dance, talent, interview and humanitarian advocacy. I never go into a competition expecting to win because I find that it makes me complacent. I see everyone as competition and that keeps me fighting until the end.

3) What other sectional prizes did you walk away with?

I won best national costume, best evening wear, best swim wear, best interview and continental queen of the Caribbean.

4) You recently visited the Olga Mendez Basic School, what prompted that visit and what was it like interacting with the children.

I'm a proud ambassador of Friends For Education, a nonprofit organization that understands the importance of education. Our youths are the future of this country so we have to invest in them. When I heard about the poor conditions of the Olga Mendez basic school and how dedicated the teachers were, I had to visit for myself. I donated books to all the students and I enjoyed spending time with them, truly inspiring. Today, I'm working on raising money to improve on the physical condition of the school.

5) Now that the pageant is over, what's next for you in terms of fulfilling the goals of your platform?

I will be traveling throughout the world to raise awareness on different issues, specifically focusing on my platform (woman and children world issues). I will also be making appearances and promoting the Miss Humanity International pageant in different countries.

Independent music labels in the United States have begun to show interest in a young Jamaican singer, J.B aka Jamaican Boy who hails from the East Orange area of New Jersey. Born in Jamaica, he grew up in the Central Jamaica region before migrating to the US.

"I always stayed true to my Jamaican roots, but I combine it with my own interpretation of pop and R & B music which I also grew up listening to," JB explained.

A versatile artiste, JB has experimented with various genres of music, but he also conceptualizes his songs from start to finish, creating all of his melodies. He has logged several hours in the studio honing his craft. JB's considerable skills afforded him the opportunity to work with Treach from Naughty by Nature.

Moreover, the rap legend granted J.B. an opening performance on one of his overseas gigs and the two artistes are now developing a song together.

jamaican-boy-photo-2.jpg
"It's a great look, being able to bounce ideas off a legend like Treach has meant a lot to me in my career so far," he said.

Several of J.B.'s songs have received local radio play through various stations including Roadblock, Seton Hall College, Elite, Street 96, and Caribbean Zone.

Recently, Galavia Entertainment & Media L.L.C. released its first commercial music video entitled "She Knows It" performed by J.B and featuring Shane Springs. The video has generated over 20,000 views on youtube and the early feedback has been encouraging with several A & R representatives from independent labels in the United States expressing interest in the youngster.

"Right now, I am just putting in the work. I came to Jamaica and spent a few weeks to recharge my batteries and now I am heading back to New Jersey and straight to the studio to put in some more work.
The video continues to garner local and regional attention, yet only marks the beginning of what is sure to become a long and prosperous career for an artist who has had to overcome much adversity throughout his early life.

"What doesn't destroy you in life, only makes you stronger," the young man said.

Without question, J.B's persistence and perseverance will earn him a reputation as not only an artist, but an individual who is dedicated to what he does and loves most - music.

Hi-Moore impresses with 'Go gor my goal'

Webmin

Ultra-talented rookie reggae singer Hi Moore is generating a major buzz in the local music industry with a brilliant new song called 'Go For My Goal' which is blowing up all over FM radio.

Born Claude Ansine, but more popularly known as Hi-Moore, this young man initially got his exposure to performing while attending the Merlene Ottey High School in Hanover.

After graduating, he decided to devote his interest to music full time, and that decision is already paying dividends with his song added to playlists at major radio stations in Jamaica. . Hi-Moore hails from the Papine/Tavern area of Kingston where he lived with his father, a taxi driver and his mother, a factory worker. He grew up with two brothers and two sisters and started attending Papine High for one year before he was sent to Hanover to live with his father's parents in 1988.

"It was a ghetto vibes in Tavern, and although I came from that environment, I had most of my family down this side, so I got to meet and unite with the family and the country, start to go rivers, springs and work on my grandfather's farm, and mi connect with the soil certain way..it was a joy, mi never used to that life," he said:

"By knowing the country and town, I got a balance, life is a balance, and I met rastafarians in the country, who taught me about African consciousness and that affected my music," he said.

He returned to town to life with one of his aunts in Seven Miles, Bull Bay, and learned the Boboshanti principle and order. At age 19, Hi-Moore attended a stage show in Waterhouse, and impressed the patrons. He recorded his first song in 1999 for Christopher James on the Jammys label, entitled "Black Woman of the Century". Well-known songwriter Black Pearl also gave him a lot of support.

One year later, he recorded "Touched by an Angel" for Lloyd James on the Jammy's label, but neither songs were released and he decided to leave.

He continued to hone his skills as a live performer, building a solid reputation for his smooth vocals and charismatic performances in the areas of Shooter's Hill, Harbour View, Rockfort and Seven Miles area. Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond believes that her fellow artiste Lady Saw needs to stop advertising her Christianity and just practise it instead.

"I believe that it is a good decision for her to make that personal commitment to God, but why advertise it?
Instead of talking about church, she should just do it, go missing off the scene, and go deeper in her spirituality, so there is no need to advertise your Christianity like is some form of promotion. That's just what I believe," she said.

She also doubted the sincerity of Lady Saw's conversion, given that she is still performing dancehall songs.

"Usually when people say dem tun Christian, yu declare yourself, you call people you are in conflict with, and say 'let's stop this...', but mi no get no call, that means say 'have up' still a gwaan. She have mi up still, or as a good Christian, she woulda repent her sins, call me and forgive me. However, it is her new single, 'Mi Bless' on the Pusha Yute-Chase Millz Records label which is generating a lot of buzz in the dancehall.

"Several dancehall selectors ah link me hard fi it, and the radio tun up right now," she said.

He went to Montego Bay to live and hooked up with the Dangazone camp. He recorded a song called "Captivate My Mind" on the Perilous riddim which enjoyed moderate rotation on radio. However, things did not work out as planned and he took a break from the business in order to provide financial support to his family.

"Mi start juggle and sell clothes in Montego Bay, that's why my most of my songs are about hustling. Mi never give up, always maintain, one day, mi muss crack the ice...that's why mi say pursue yu dreams," he said.

But still, music beckoned to him and he continued to write, and finetune his music skills. Now, he's back doing what he loves.

Presently, Hi-Moore's latest release entitled "Go for My Goal" has been enjoying excellent airplay on at IRIE FM, HITZ, LINKS and BESS FM.

Her church thing caan frighten me, mi ah talk mi mind...if you are a Christian, dancehall is just not the place for you, but she is doing the same things she did before," Macka Diamond said.

In the meantime, Macka Diamond's 'Forty and Fabulous' had been added to the playlists on radio stations in the UK, The Bahamas, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.

She recently released a song called 'Sick to the Treatment' and a new combination single called 'Bun Him Part Two' featuring Blacker.
However, it is her new single, 'Mi Bless' on the Pusha Yute-Chase Millz Records label which is generating a lot of buzz in the dancehall.

"Several dancehall selectors ah link me hard fi it, and the radio tun up right now," she said.

Recorded as a tribute to the wonderful exploits of the Jamaican athletic team during the recent Olympic games and successful go-getters who accomplish their goals, the single has established Hi Moore as an act to watch.

"I have got a great response to this song, it ah play hard on IRIE, when people, old and young, see me, they come over and say 'yo, Jah Moore, keep it up', and mi feel good fi know say it a gwaan," he said.

Other songs previously released by Hi Moore are "Wilderness" and "Broken Heart".He recently shot a video for 'Go Sonny', an inspirational song on a hip hop-R & B song from producers in Switzerland.
