mojo-morgan-photo-1.jpg
Hailing from "Morgan Heritage" one of the biggest reggae bands in the world , Mojo Morgan is used to being in the spotlight, but it is from his personal and medical life that Mojo recently found himself thrust in the media. A•midst recording with his siblings on their latest album, the youngest band member was rushed to the hospital. A combination of personal stress and viral infection gave Mojo time for reflection while hospitalized, and in an ironic "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life" his recent single "New Dawn" took an even deeper meaning.

No rest for the weary as Mojo Morgan announces that he has signed with Krian Music Group and is focusing and going full speed ahead with his solo career.

Krian Music Group, a full service independent record label, announces the signing of "Rasta-Rock" artist and Morgan Heritage percussionist/vocalist, Mojo Morgan. "New Dawn," the lead single off Morgan's full-length, solo debut album will be available, digitally, on December 4th, 2012.

Mojo Morgan has been signed with top independent publishing company, The Royalty Network, since 2006. When searching for a label to release his debut solo album, Morgan looked to The Royalty Network's independent label, Krian Music Group.

"Signing to Krian Music comes at a time in my career when getting my music to the right audience is key, mainly because of my diverse sound. With Krian, the dream becomes a reality and we look forward to achieving our goal of providing good music for people from all walks of life," remarked Mojo Morgan. "After fighting through a near life threatening encounter, as I did last month, you tend to revamp your outlook on life. My single "New Dawn" has become more relevant in my personal life. I hope to provide listeners with a vehicle to always look on the brighter side of a bad situation and the song gives me a second chance at doing just that."

Morgan's "Rasta Rock" combines Alternative, Reggae, and hip-hop music with Top 40 hits. The lead single, "New Dawn", represents the "Rasta Rock" movement perfectly, drawing inspiration from those diverse genres. The uplifting track, which samples Nina Simone's "Feeling Good", has an old school vibe mixed with a contemporary beat.

"New Dawn", featuring Mojo's brother, Peetah Morgan, has garnered success from Jamaica to Ghana, Miami, New York and San Francisco, boasting impressive radio airplay in those markets.

"Mojo's a real workhorse of an artist. He truly gets what it takes to be successful as an Artist and is as hungry as we are to make his release a hit," stated Frank Liwall, President and Founder of The Royalty Network and Krian Music Group. "New Dawn" is the perfect introduction, as it reflects Mojo's true Alternative side."

A rather upset Bramma 'Da Gorilla', has taken to twitter, his frustration on what he believes is a deliberate attempt to derail a promotional stint created by him to enhance his career. Popular Reggae/Dancehall artiste Konshens who is widely known across the local and international reggae music industry is the perpetrator. Bramma said Konshens had not only been making references of himself using his (Bramma's) slogan, that is being heavily promoted; but has recorded a song using it. The contentious slogan is, "Gorilla."

"Bredda you a one a di hottest ting ina dancehall and happy fi you, me proud a you youth we suppose to be bredrin" Bramma said, "If you a go sey Gorilla, me keep Gorilla Bash plus it write up inna de community whe de two a we live. The Supreme Court

The legal team for GRAMMY Award-winning reggae star, Buju Banton, has launched a new letter writing campaign -- this time aimed at the Supreme Court - to build further awareness about the highly controversial federal drug case that landed the beloved Jamaican music icon behind bars.

The letter writing campaign comes on the heels of the Free Buju Press Conference that was held early last week on Capitol Hill. Banton's new defense attorney, Chokwe Lumumba, organized the Washington D.C. event in conjunction with the Buju Banton Defense Support Committee to formally announce the filing of a petition for a Writ of Certiorari with the Supreme Court.

he panel of special guest speakers included GRAMMY Award-winning reggae artist and producer, Stephen Marley; Dr. Carolyn Cooper, author and lecturer at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica; Brother Aula Sumbry, radio host and Chairman of the NAACP Prison Committee in Trenton, New Jersey; attorney and progressive policy advocate, Nkechi Taifa; longtime Banton friend and collaborator, Gramps Morgan; Salim Adafo, Vice-Chairman of the National Black United Front; and Banton co-counsel, Imhotep Alkebu-Lan.

Lumumba also addressed the attendees. "I think he is a political prisoner," said the veteran legal eagle. "There is a generational gap between the struggle to free political prisoners and the struggles of young people. [Buju is helping] to keep the act of freeing political prisoners a relevant one to all generations that exist right now."

Banton is currently housed at the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater, Florida, where he awaits a decision from trial judge James S. Moody, Jr. who is deliberating on two motions recently filed by his lawyers:
2) Second motion for new trial (due to possible juror misconduct).

free-buju.jpg
Mr. Lumumba, the Buju Banton Defense Support Committee and the Gargamel Music Family are asking all friends, fans and activists around the world to stand in solidarity with the ongoing movement to Free Buju by writing a letter to the Supreme Court today. All letters should be sent to Lumumba's office:

United States Supreme Court
C/O Attorney Chokwe Lumumba
440 N. Mill St.
Jackson, Mississippi 39202

Hon. Supreme Court Justices:

I am writing this letter in support of Mark Anthony Myrie (Buju Banton).

Mr. Myrie has filed a petition in this court seeking review and reversal of drug, conspiracy, weapons possession and phone facilitation convictions occurring in the U.S.District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division.

The convictions of Mr. Myrie are outrageous and unjust. Mr. Myrie was the victim of a concerted U.S. government effort to entrap, conducted by a corrupt informant who was paid 3.5 million dollars by the government for his services in various cases over the years.

Mark Myrie is a Grammy Award winning reggae artiste from Jamaica. He has never been convicted of a crime prior to the present case. He has helped feed numerous hungry children in his country and otherwise contributed to worthy causes in Jamaica and elsewhere. He is supported by hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions worldwide.

I ask this honorable court to review his case and grant Mark Myrie the relief he deserves.

Portland Hurricane Sandy relief fund established

Press Release

Following the passage of Hurricane Sandy last week Wednesday the Portland Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund (PHSRF) has been established. It was launched at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston today. The Fund was created after West Portland Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz called on Jamaica 's private sector to give a helping hand through an organized and effective Relief Fund that will help to systematically address the needs of affected citizens in the Parish.

The Fund is chaired by leading Dental Surgeon, Dr. Andre Foote with other Directors being Shelly Ann Curran, Entrepreneur; Paula Pinnock-MacLeod, Marketing Consultant and prominent Bankers Phillip Armstrong and Andrew Cocking. The Fund has thesupport of Portland 's Political representatives and civil society.

PHSRF Chairman Dr. Foote pointed out that, "After seeing first hand the widespread damage all over the Parish I realized that it will take an organized and herculean effort to get the lives of Portlanders in order. I had to answer the call. Many Portlanders are without roofs, many of their subsistence farms have been destroyed and many are simply not able to pick up the pieces and get their lives back on track without a helping hand. It is important for us as Jamaicans to do what we can to help in a truly effective way."

Dr. Foote went on to point out that several private sector companies have come on board to rescue Portland through pledges of cash and kind. Distribution will be done through our partner, Food for the Poor.

Hurricane Sandy resulted in widespread damage to homes, businesses, infrastructure and the vital agricultural sector in Portland . Thousands of Portlanders are reeling from its effects and are crying out for help in what is inarguably the parish's biggest disaster in decades.

Persons interested in donating can do so via the Portland Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund National Commercial Bank Account Number 351119322 and/or in kind by leaving items at 20 South Avenue off Waterloo Road in Kingston. The Fund has also developed helpportland Facebook and Twitter accounts. The Fund can also be contacted at Digicel 486-9383 or LIME 531-0698 and email helpportland@gmail.com.
