Two relatives of a twelve year old boy who was rescued by police after he was found locked naked in a dog kennel last week, were slapped with charges of cruelty.
The Trinidad Express reports that both men are to appear in the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court today, charged with committing the act of cruelty against the child.
They reportedly stripped the boy naked and locked him in the kennel with a pitbull for not listening.
Police said a female relative accused of striking the boy with a belt buckle to his head has been detained pending further investigation.
Officers said the woman told them she was not there when the boy claimed she struck him.
Under Section 46:01 of The Children Act, a person convicted of cruelty can be fined up to $10,000 or made to serve a term of imprisonment of up to two years in prison.
