
Solomonic Productions through Bunny Wailer, survivor and foundation member of The Wailers has afforded foundation member of The Skatalites, Lloyd George Brevett O.D. a funeral worthy of his stature on Sunday June 3rd, 2012. The Wake will be held on Saturday June 2nd from 6pm at the Trench Town Culture Yard and the Repass that will follow the Internment on Sunday June 3rd, will also be held there.
Lloyd Brevett will be remembered for his singular contribution, his group The Skatalites' contribution and his father David Brevett's significant contribution to Jamaica's music industry at home and globally for the greater part of his life. Lloyd Brevett was awarded the Order of Distinction and the Silver Musgrave Medal for and through his contribution and membership in The Skatalites, the group that laid the foundation for the creation of Jamaica's indigenous music forms of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae.
A mural recognizing Lloyd George Brevett and his extended musical environment of Sir Coxson Dodd and The Wailers has been commissioned across from the May Pen Cemetery Grounds and has raised the ante of the expectations towards the development of Trench Town and surrounding communities to be a more robust reflection of the creative heritage of Jamaica's popular music as Brother Brevett's continuing contribution to Jamaica's music legacy.
Minister Of Culture Lisa Hanna and Opposition Minister Olivia Babsy Grange and other Government Officials are expected to attend the Funeral Service for Lloyd George Brevett O.D.
This will take place at the University West Indies Chapel, University Campus, Mona on Sunday June 3rd, 2012. A Public Viewing will commence at 9:30 am with the Funeral Service at 10:00am. Lloyd George Brevett O.D. will be laid to rest at the May Pen Cemetery on Spanish Town Road.
The entrance to the Chapel can be reached off Mona Road next to the Post Office. A public procession led by the Tivoli Gardens Marching Band will follow the service from Studio One Recording Studio, home to the birth place of The Skatalites, 13 Studio One Boulevard, Kingston 5 through Trench Town to the May Pen Cemetery.
