A former Jamaican Pentecostal deacon Ezekiel Foster has claimed in the Old Bailey criminal court in London that he was on the orders of an evil spirit named 'Joseph' when he killed his partner a young Jamaican mother of three.
Foster stabbed 24-year-old Sashana Roberts at least 11 times, then dumped her body in the bath of her flat in north London on September 12 last year.
However, the court was told that Foster's attack was caused by a jealous rage.
Foster denies murder but has admitted to manslaughter, claiming he suffers from a mental illness which affected his ability to control his actions.
Giving evidence at the Old Bailey, Foster said he had started hearing voices in his head while he was on the run from police in around 2009.
He said he had skipped bail after he was told he was facing jail time for shoplifting because of his previous convictions.
He was eventually arrested and sent to prison for four months.
Asked about his motivation for the killing, he replied that the spirit told him to do it, and he had no recollection of how it happened.
The trial continues.
