A 24-year-old Canadian man is in federal custody for rushing toward the front of an American Airlines flight from Jamaica after the plane landed in Miami.

Authorities say he rushed toward the front and was subdued by some of the 165 passengers on flight 320.

Usain Bolt gets his own Hublot Watch

The world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, now has a Swiss watch made in honour of him, which also features his image. The watch is aptly named King Power Usain Bolt.

In addition to the watch's many references to the sprinter, it features an interesting hallmark: the strap is made from exactly the same leather as the shoes he wore when he broke world records in Beijing in 2008.

Hublot, for whom he is an ambassador, has developed this special model in close consultation with Bolt to mark this monumental year in sport.

The watch is a fusion of symbols which represent everything about Bolt starting with his pose - his unique signature - stylised and immediately recognisable in an anthracite grey transfer on a black background. A 12-hour chronograph counter sits at 6 o'clock, and is decorated with a touch of green in a nod to the colours on the Jamaican flag.

Bolt, who turns 25 this year, recently opened his season in style by completing his first individual 100 metres in a quick 9.82 seconds at the National Stadium in Kingston, as he prepares to defend three titles in London this summer: the 100, 200 and 4x100 metres.

Statement from Busy Signal

busy-signal.jpg
In this a time of reflection, I would like to thank my fans who have supported me through this difficult situation and who will continue to support me. Your messages and prayers via social networks and via members of my team are what have brought light to the darkness of my cell.

I have never admitted that I was involved in any drug deal or drug arrangement. I waived my rights to an extradition trial here in Jamaica, so that I can return to the US to face a charge of absconding bail ONLY. This incident took place ten (10) years ago before I even considered becoming an artiste.

As you can understand, this is a difficult time for me, however during my time away, my fans will not be left with a void - there are several unreleased tracks that will definitely keep you "busy" until my return. I recently released my album Reggae Music Again, which debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Reggae charts. On my recent tour of Amsterdam and Paris, we shot elements for the video to the title track of the album. It features cameos from Marcia Griffiths, Queen Ifrica and Anthony B and that will be released in a couple of weeks.

For my fans overseas, my management team has been in dialogue with promoters who have all shown their support for me and my situation and for that I thank them.

For my family, you have stood by me through thick and thin and I know you will continue to do so. In my time away, I have made the necessary arrangements with my management team to have you taken care of until my return.

To my band. Hi-Voltage, you have toured the world with me and have been a tower of strength. Continue to make good music until I return, cause the mission will continue.

I know that my facebook page has been inactive for a while, but, starting this week, Shane Brown, head of Juke Boxx management team, will assume direct control of my twitter account - @busysignal_turf and my facebook page - www.facebook.com/OneBusySignal. I will be kept updated so please continue to send your love, support and prayers through these channels, as they keep me going.

To my legal team, KD Knight, Bert Samuels and Roxanne Mars, your positive words and unfailing belief and support in me and my case have made this situation a little easier to bear. Thank you very much.

Finally my friends, my fans and my family, thank you again from the depths of my heart. Please keep me in your prayers. "We not going down, cause God alone controls my destiny"

STATEMENT FROM ADIDJA PALMER REGARDING THE PORTMORE EMPIRE

Adidjahiem Records would like to announce that the outfit known as the Portmore Empire is being disbanded, with the following statement from Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer:

Dancehall fans worldwide, it with great regret that I, Adidja Palmer have decided to disband the Portmore Empire. These artistes have been under the Adidjahiem leadership for years, where they have honed their craft and made their mark, and as such, are well on their way to becoming major forces in Dancehall. They have reached a level where they are more capable to take on their careers by themselves, and it would be unfair to them, based on the limited resources of Adidjahiem Records, and current legal woes of the Adidjahiem C.E.O. and team members.

I wish them the best and I am confident that they will live up to my expectations. In the future, Adidjahiem will continue to bring out new acts and groom them for stardom.

Thank You.

Former  Portmore Empire members Vawnessa 'Gaza Slim' Saddler and Leroy 'Tommy Lee' Russell are moving on with a newly formed label named PG13.

Busy Signal for Court This Week

Reports are that Busy Signal had performed in Amsterdam and Paris last week, but cut short his tour after he apparently got wind of the fact that an extradition warrant was issued for him by the United States Government.

However, when he got to England he was refused entry into that country and detained by British Immigration officials.

The Americans have accused Gordon, who was a resident alien, of fleeing that country in 2002 before he could be sentenced on a cocaine charge in October that year.

Sources say the artiste, who got bail in March 2002, is suspected of removing an ankle bracelet used as a tracking device by US authorities to ascertain the whereabouts of a suspect on bail - and fled to Jamaica.

Police yesterday said the artiste has been under surveillance for several years.

He has been travelling extensively but has steered clear of the US.

Gordon is scheduled to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. If he is extradited, he will be first high-profile Jamaican to be surrendered to the US authorities in the two years since former Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke was captured and sent to New York on drug-related charges.

A sentencing hearing is set to begin today for Coke, who pleaded guilty to racketeering.

Busy Signal is known for the popular hits One More Night - a remake of the Phil Collins original, Jamaica Love and Nah Go A Jail Again.

"I never apologized. Jamaican people need to be more literate about life. Five years ago, we stop sing certain songs, and start focus more on dancehall to make it what it is today. "Look here, I sell music, I do this to send all my youths to school and my grand-daughter because I am a grandfather now. I have to provide for my family. I tell these people that we, as dancehall artistes, don't hate people, because of what they want to say or do. We don't practise hate, we don't want to kill gay people, we love all members of the human race, regardless of their religion, creed, race or sexual orientation," he said.

He also addressed the sound system selectors who have been lambasting his decision to do a videotaped statement addressing his beliefs about gays.

"I told them to leave us alone, to try to understand where we are coming from, but still yu have some selectors weh go pon the mike and ah talk a bagga tings. So when the gays dem come  to the dance and want to spend $150,000, you selector bwoy, don't tek dem money, run dem outta the dance. Dem caan use dem little birdbrain pon me, man ah lion," he said.

"Nuff people inna dancehall who de pon tour now is because of what I said. How much food woulda eat by dancehall artistes out inna the world if I never did this? I am an international artiste with fans all over the world, mi big across the globe, I have to survive inna the real world and take care of my family."

He also addressed fellow artiste Bounty Killer who on Monday made a statement via Twitter that he "never bawled or talked about it" when the gays banned a few of  his shows in Europe.  Killer also said that "some p---y get fraida b- bwoy through money".

"Bounty Killer need fi tweet say ah 8 people lef inna the venue  outta 8000 fi see him perform after him ah insist say him waan close the show over Amsterdam Reggae Festival, ah dat him fi tweet, after mi perform, the show done and everybody lef...nobody never waan see him." Donna Summers dead at age 63

Grammy-winning disco legend Donna Summer died Thursday after a battle with lung cancer, aged 63, her family and media reports said.

Known as the Queen of Disco, the singer, whose 1970s and 80s hits included "I Feel Love," "Love to Love you Baby" and "She Works Hard for the Money," died in Florida.

"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," said a family statement.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Summer, who also became something of an icon in the gay community, shot to fame during the disco era of the 1970s with hits like "MacArthur Park," "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls."

The orgasmic-sounding "Love to Love You Baby," released in 1975, was one of the first disco songs to be released in extended form, giving full vent to Summer's erotic moans and groans.

In the 1980s her hits included "She Works Hard for the Money" and "State of Independence."

The disco diva was born LaDonna Adrian Gaines into a large devoutly Christian family in Boston and started singing in the local church, before performing in a number of Motown-influenced groups in her teens.

Summer took her stage name after marrying Austrian actor Helmuth Sommer in 1972, anglicizing her name after divorcing him. She spoke fluent German and the couple had a daughter, Mimi Sommer.

The singer won five Grammy awards during her spectacular career, including in 1980 for best rock female vocalist for the 1979 "Hot Stuff," but also as recently as 1997 for best dance recording for "Carry On."

She holds the record for most consecutive double albums to top the Billboard charts -- three -- and first female with four #1 singles in a 12-month period, three solo and one with Barbra Streisand, according to the IMDb website.

She had kept her illness quiet, and didn't appear too sick only a couple of weeks ago, citing sources as saying she was focused on trying to finish a new album she had been working on.

She married singer Bruce Sudano in 1980, and they had two daughters together, it said.

According to the artiste he said he penned his anti-gay songs when he was much younger and immature and begged for forgiveness.

"Do not fight against me for some songs that I sing 20 years ago. There is no one in this world is the same person as how they was 20 years ago. I know I am not. I was a kid and I come from Waterhouse in one community. I never know what the world is like and the world is all about. Despite the deejay present legal situation the two were able to squash their differences through letters and other means of communication such as the lawyers and even their mutual accountant. All parties came to the realization that a good friendship and business was lost and it was in both parties best interest to rekindle dancehall dominance.

31st Anniversary of a Legend's Death

Webmin

Thirty one years ago, the world lost a great man - Reggae legend Bob Marley.

Marley passed away on May 11 1981 in Miami from cancer. He was 36 years old. His music has moved people and started movements, and he's constantly reminded us all that "one good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain."

Today marks the 31st anniversary of the death of a true musical pioneer, a man whose impact transcended class, race and culture all over the world. The reggae legend inspired an almost spiritual following among a diverse set of believers. Marley was an everyman, a gentle soul and a revolutionary. Many have identified with his humble upbringing in the tiny island of Jamaica, the Pan-African beliefs stemming from his Rastafarian faith, and his advocacy of social justice. When he penned politically charged songs like "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Get Up Stand Up," they resonated as far more than mere recordings. They were calls to action.

Many of Marley's greatest and most recognizable hits came with the Wailers including Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer who grew up beside him.

Ultimately, it was Marley's penchant for social justice that made him an identifiable superstar.

Marley's living legacies - his children, continue to build and propel brand Marley worldwide. Three decades after Bob Marley's death, his legacy will continue to resonate for years to come.

He also took the opportunity to launch Sizzla Youth Foundation on an international level to support the work in Jamaica and the rest of the world. Currently the Sizzla Youth Foundation Museum is being built in the community of August Town and a lot of support and funding is needed.

swinging.jpg
According to wha me hear, there is a popular activity that is now getting prevalent in Jamaica. It is called 'swinging'. People from uptown downtown and round town are allegedly engaging in this activity.

Swinging or partner swapping is a non-monogamous behavior, in which singles or partners in a committed relationship engage in sexual activities. Swinging can take place in a number of contexts, ranging from spontaneous sexual activity at informal gatherings of friends to planned regular social meetings to hooking up with like-minded people at a swingers' club. It can also involve Internet-based swinger social networking services online.

Swingers in the lifestyle engage in lots of different sexual activities with others for a variety of reasons. For many, an advantage is the increased quality, quantity and frequency of sex. Some people engage in swinging to add variety into their otherwise conventional sex lives or for curiosity. Some couples see swinging as a healthy outlet and means to strengthen their relationship. Others regard such activities as merely social and recreational interaction with others.

Chairman of the People's National Party, Robert Pickersgill says the party has no record of having received a gift from former Olint boss David Smith.

Yesterday the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and former Prime Minister P J Patterson both issued statements reacting to media reports regarding benefits allegedly received from Smith, the jailed Jamaican who headed the collapsed investment scheme.

The statements followed reports of a Confiscation Order issued by the Supreme Court of the British Caribbean colony, Turks and Caicos, claiming that both the Opposition JLP and the ruling PNP, as well as Patterson and Daryl Vaz, benefited from donations from Smith.

In a brief statement, the Opposition party said that it was aware that Olint/David Smith "was one of many contributors to the JLP campaign over the period leading up to the September 2007 General Election". The JLP added that it was "examining the claim that US$5 million was donated to the party".

Former Prime Minister, PJ Patterson categorically denied allegations that he received US$1 million.

Patterson said he had referred Smith to PNP campaign director Donald Buchanan about contributing to the campaign. He said he did not know what resulted from those discussions.

Pickersgill said the party has also not received any formal communication in relation to the court document.

Smith was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the United States District Court in Orlando, Florida last August. He was accused of defrauding thousands of customers of more than US$220 million and was convicted after pleading guilty to 18 counts of money laundering, four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is not backing down despite threats of legal action by telecommunications giant Digicel following a raid at the company's New Kingston head office on Friday.

The state agency is stands by its decision after agents from the organization secured a search warrant issued by a judge of the Supreme Court to carry out the raid at the offices of Digicel.

The purpose of the operation was to ensure that General Consumption Tax (GCT) paid by customers was paid over in full to the tax authorities.

"By virtue of Section 17J of the Revenue Administration Act, TAJ is empowered to seek and use a search warrant to retrieve records and documents from any taxpayer in circumstances where this becomes necessary, once it is clearly demonstrated to the court that this action is warranted under the given circumstances."

Digicel issued a release voicing its displeasure at what it said was "TAJ officials accompanied by members of the police force bearing high-powered firearms who prevented Digicel staff leaving at the end of the working day".

According to Digicel, it has at all times cooperated and complied with the various information requests made, subject to the constraints of the Telecommunications Act in terms of the protection of confidential customer information.

The company said it was "shocked and offended by the abuse of process and approach undertaken by the TAJ in this matter - especially as all information which the TAJ was seeking pursuant to the order, and which the Telecommunications Act allowed Digicel to provide, had already been supplied".

Digicel said late Friday evening it secured a stay of execution from High Court judge Evan Brown which prevented the TAJ from continuing to carry out the search, but the state agents initially refused to acknowledge the court order.

The company said it strongly denies any form of wrongdoing, which is to be inferred from what it considers to be "a blatant witch-hunt and fishing expedition" on the part of TAJ.

The telecommunications company said it is prepared to go after those involved - either directly or indirectly - and will be returning to court on Tuesday to pursue the matter.

abortion-for-sale.jpg
Local health professionals employed to a public hospital, are illegally selling a powerful ulcer treatment drug to persons wanting to have an abortion.

The health practitioners, who sell the pills to be misused as a baby killer, fail to warn the buyers that the use of the drug can cause death.

The drug - Cytotec (Misoprostol) - is prescribed by some doctors to treat serious stomach ulcers and should not be dispensed by a pharmacist without a prescription.

Yet, it is being distributed on the black market for between $6,000 and $7,000 without a prescription and is available to anyone.

An employee of the hospital also told individuals where the pills could be bought without a prescription.

But the pharmacist made no mention of the risk that the pills could pose for the woman or the unborn child.

General practitioner Dr Romayne Edwards stated that a pregnant woman who wants to keep her child would not be prescribed this drug if she was diagnosed with an ulcer problem.

Dr Edwards warned of the risks women face by taking this pill for an abortion.

"Persons can die from the improper use of this medication. But the problems come when the foetus is in the wrong place," said Dr Edwards.

She added that it is extremely dangerous for women with ectopic pregnancies, as when taken for its abortive properties, the pill could give a false sense that termination was under way.

In January 2008, a Ministry of Health-commissioned team recommended that the current laws prohibiting abortions be repealed and replaced with legislation outlining conditions under which medical termination of pregnancy would be lawful.

The posture outlined in the health ministry report was due in large part to an alarming number of botched abortions taking place on the island.

The report, penned by the Abortion Policy Review Advisory Group, revealed that botched abortions were burdening the public-health sector.

Producer Rookie, who is known for his rhythm "Superstar" which features the popular song "Backshot' by Lady Saw and Spragga Benz, has filed a lawsuit against Magnum Kings and Queens judge Skatta Burrell.

Rookie's lawyer reportedly sent a letter to Skatta, because elements of the Superstar rhythm were used in Specialist's "Street Hustle" song which was produced by Skatta.

Skatta stated that Rookie should be thanking him and Downsound Records instead of suing them. "Rookie's last hit was 1998. He should feel glorified that a hit in 2012 has been influenced by his rhythm. Instead of suing me and Downsound Records, he should be thanking us. It is ridiculous to have taken it this far. I feel like I am going to go to court just for the hell of it," Skatta said.

Rookie is asking for a lump sum payment and future royalties.

mirf-9th-edition.jpgThis year, for its 9th edition, the Montreal International Reggae Festival (MIRF) team will be celebrating Jamaica's 50 years of independence with some of the leading and most prolific ambassadors in the history of Reggae.

Continually embracing the motto "United Against Violence" and with an unrelenting determination to unite nations through music, MIRF has designed three days of stellar programming this summer.

Included in the roster of confirmed artists are: Konshens, Khago, Assasin and Christopher Martin, Chma, Tarrus Riley and Luciano "The Messenger" who returns to North America after a five year hiatus.

To celebrate Jamaica's jubilee of independence in splendor, it is fitting that the unique and multi-talented, Honorable Jimmy Cliff (O.M) will headline this year's festival. Immortalized by the character Ivanhoe Martin in the 1972 Perry Henzell classic film, The harder They Come and its hit list soundtrack that included, You Can Get It If You Really Want, Many Rivers To Cross, Sitting In Limbo and the unforgettable title track, The Harder They Come, Jimmy Cliff also started his musical career in 1962, the year of Jamaica's independence.

The song Miss Jamaica, was one of Jimmy Cliff's earliest hits, composed in recognition of Jamaica's August 6, 1962 independence; and for 50 years since then it has remained closely linked to the lowering of the British flag and presentation of Jamaica's new colors black green and gold. Jimmy Cliff, whose real name is James Chambers, is currently the only living artist to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honor granted by the government of Jamaica for achievement in the arts and sciences.

"TABOO YARDIES", a Documentary Screening will take place at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival on Wednesday, May 2 at 7pm Regal Cinema South Beach
1120 Lincoln RoadMiami Beach.

The documentary was directed by Selena Blakes and states that it is unashamedly in support of human rights and against violence being advocated and/or perpetrated against LGBT Jamaicans. The documentary hopes that  Taboo Yardies becomes a vehicle that spurs an open and honest conversation that ultimately promotes respect and tolerance for all people regardless of sexual orientation.

What People are saying about TABOO... YARDIES: "Taboo Yardies is such a timely and relevant documentary that will become a part of the rational discourse towards the rights afforded to human beings being able to be themselves without judgment or vitriol. I was most riveted from the beginning to the end of the film."-Bruce George, Co-Founder of Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam (HBO)

"It is crucial to watch Taboo Yardies for those who want to understand the problem of violence against gay and lesbian people in Jamaica. This is a thoughtful, well-balanced, entertaining and finely layered examination of this topic. Selena Blake has filmed a must-watch documentary that should be seen by everyone. Only through the education provided in Taboo Yardies can we overcome the fear and foreboding surrounding this issue, and end the wanton violence."-Wayne Besen, Founder and Executive Director -Truth Wins Out

Since 1999, hundreds of submissions of films have been submitted to be screened in the series. Only select the best for screening; films that invoke passion, shed important information, or touch the audience in a particular way. Over a 100 films have been screened as a part of the 'Film & Cultures Series' at Medgar Evers College. According to reports, no film brought forth the type of deeply personal and emotional conversation that the film Taboo Yardies created. A single film can not answer all the questions or address every issue, but this film challenges how some people relate to each other as humans on many levels.

deacon.jpg
A former Jamaican Pentecostal deacon Ezekiel Foster has claimed in the Old Bailey criminal court in London that he was on the orders of an evil spirit named 'Joseph' when he killed his partner a young Jamaican mother of three.

Foster stabbed 24-year-old Sashana Roberts at least 11 times, then dumped her body in the bath of her flat in north London on September 12 last year.

However, the court was told that Foster's attack was caused by a jealous rage.

Foster denies murder but has admitted to manslaughter, claiming he suffers from a mental illness which affected his ability to control his actions.

Giving evidence at the Old Bailey, Foster said he had started hearing voices in his head while he was on the run from police in around 2009.

He said he had skipped bail after he was told he was facing jail time for shoplifting because of his previous convictions.

He was eventually arrested and sent to prison for four months.

Asked about his motivation for the killing, he replied that the spirit told him to do it, and he had no recollection of how it happened.

The trial continues.

Donna Summers dead at age 63

"Do not fight against me for some songs that I sing 20 years ago. There is no one in this world is the same person as how they was 20 years ago. I know I am not. I was a kid and I come from Waterhouse in one community. I never know what the world is like and the world is all about. 31st Anniversary of a Legend's Death

In time to express his love for the Mothers and Fathers of the world, Sizzla just filmed his newest video 'Mama Make Me Deyah So' on the heels Mothers Day. The track also highlights Sizzla speaking Hebrew; however the song focuses on youth showing high respect for their Mothers and Fathers.

swinging.jpg

Others regard such activities as merely social and recreational interaction with others.

political-parties-received-olint-donations.jpg

He was accused of defrauding thousands of customers of more than US$220 million and was convicted after pleading guilty to 18 counts of money laundering, four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

digicel-vs-taj.jpg

Three decades after Bob Marley's death, his legacy will continue to resonate for years to come.

swinging.jpg

Others regard such activities as merely social and recreational interaction with others.

political-parties-received-olint-donations.jpg
