Singer Etta James, who is most famous for her 1961 single "At Last" dies early this morning from complications caused by leukemia. In December of last year, the singer's manager announced that she was suffering from dementia, leukemia and hepatitis C.

Born Jamesetta Hawkins on January 25th 1938, Hawkins rose to fame when the group she founded reached number one on the Rhythm and Blues chart in 1955 with the single "Dance With Me, Henry".

James also made headlines in 2009, when she stated that Beyonce Knowles - who played her in the 2008 film "Cadillac Records", should "get her ass whipped" for performing "At Last" for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the Inaugural Ball. James later stated that she was joking, but that she was hurt that she was not asked to perform.

She inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, and received six Grammy awards and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.

Etta James released her final album last year November titled "Dreamer". She is survived by her husband Artis Mills and her two sons, Donto and Sametto, who had performed with her since 2003, on drums and bass guitar, respectively.
