Transport Minister Mike Henry resigns

Webmin
No Comments
Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry last night submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Andrew Holness as the flood of concerns over the management of projects by the National Works Agency (NWA) continued. Henry's decision came on the heels of yesterday's revelation during Parliament's Public Accounts Committee that more than $60 million was spent on furniture for the NWA's offices, in addition to the $102 million refurbishing that sparked controversy after it was revealed in the auditor general's special report on the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP). "In light of the ongoing attacks on the JDIP, which continue despite the prime minister and I having acted to address the issue, as the line minister, I take full responsibility for the issues which have arisen, and today tendered my resignation as minister of transport and works with immediate effect," Henry said in a late night release. He becomes the second casualty of what is a deepening JDIP scandal, after former NWA CEO Patrick Wong was forced to resign. "There is nothing to hide about my stewardship of the JDIP, which is very important to the country, and I look forward to the conclusion of the ongoing investigations." Henry added: "I thank all concerned for their support over the years I occupied the position as a member of the Cabinet, especially Central Clarendon which I represent in Parliament, and from where I will be focusing more of my energy at this time."

Election date will be announced on Sunday

Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) campaign director Karl Samuda has declared that Prime Minister Andrew Holness will this weekend in Mandeville, Manchester, definitely announce the date for the much-anticipated general election. "Make no mistake about it, the election date will be announced on Sunday in Mandeville by the prime minister," Samuda reportedly told Jamaica's daily newspaper, The Gleaner, yesterday. Scoffing at speculation that the party machinery was disorganised, the JLP campaign director suggested that the media had misread the signs and stressed that this was the first time the leadership of the JLP had unambiguously signalled the date would be announced. Asked whether he could definitively state that Holness was ready, Samuda seemed confident. "Yes, of course, the meeting is Sunday night, we certainly wouldn't be convening a meeting in Mandeville Square for just mere merriment." When pressed about lingering doubts in the public domain, Samuda said: "I just know that the prime minister, when he speaks, he is to be taken seriously and he has indicated to the nation that the next time he speaks on a platform at a mass meeting or public rally he will be indicating the date of the next election."

Claro moves to evict dealers

Webmin
No Comments
Claro dealers are on edge on Wednesday morning as plans are underway to evict them from a number of flagship stores across the island. A copy of a letter obtained by RJR News under the signature of Claro dealer development manager, Carlton Edwards, and its Chief Executive Officer Alejandro Gutierrez, is requesting that the dealers wind up operations by Thursday. The directive is as a result of what the Claro management described as the failure of the dealers to meet certain conditions. They include that the locations be adequately stocked with items such as SIM cards and handsets. The locations are also required to be open Monday to Saturday between the hours of eight in the morning to six in the evening. Dealers are also required to reimburse Claro for the monthly rental for each location and fulfill quotas in terms of revenue and activation targets. One dealer in question reportedly failed to adequately stock the location and meet targets. Claro noted that effective Thursday the locations in question are to be reassigned to other dealers, and urged them to make all the necessary arrangements for the smooth transition. However, a source close to the situation revealed that from as far back as July dealers were not receiving any handsets. At one point the dealers were left empty handed as they were not getting paper based phone cards. Earlier this year the Government approved the merger of Claro and its competitor Digicel. The process is still underway. However, the Claro dealers are not going down without a fight. The group has sought the assistance ofthe law firm Knight, Junor and Samuels to prevent Claro from carrying out its plan. Attorney-at-law Bert Samuels, who is representing three of the claimants, filed an injunction in court on Tuesday preventing Claro or its agents from carrying out any eviction. Mr. Samuels is of the view that to give the dealers nine days' eviction notice is wrong.

Conditional visa waiver for Colombians

Cabinet has approved a conditional waiver of visas for persons traveling from Colombia to Jamaica. Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett says the move is in a bid to boost tourist arrivals from the South American country. Mr. Bartlett explained that the visa waiver will only apply to Colombians on a visit to Jamaica for thirty days or less and for tourism purposes. Jamaicans travelling to Colombia currently do not need a visa. And the Tourism Minister says the initiative will facilitate reciprocity and easier passage for Colombian visitors. Mr. Bartlett further noted that the move is part of his Ministry's ongoing marketing thrust to attract tourists from South America and other emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Buju imprisoned with violent Mexican gangsters

Buju Banton has been on the move during the first few months of his ten-year sentence on federal drug charges. The iconic dancehall star went from Florida to Oklahoma to Texas, back to Oklahoma, and he will soon be en route to the Federal Correctional Institution in Miami, according to David Markus, Banton's attorney. According to reports, plans to place Banton in a Mississippi prison fell through when authorities discovered that a co-defendant in the case had already been assigned to the facility. Authorities then stowed Banton in a Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City before moving him to a correctional institution in Texas. According Mr. Markus, he was at one of the worst places you can imagine -- a county facility that had been converted to house federal inmates. "The place was used for short-stay Mexican nationals who were going to be deported. It was filled with Mexican gangs. Buju was one of very few black men in there. It was really violent," Mr. Markus said. Both Judge Moody and the Jamaican consulate urged the Federal Bureau of Prisons to move Banton from the Texas facility. Mr. Markus said they appreciate that Judge Moody stood by his initial recommendation that Buju should be in Miami. "And he made a point to comment that Buju is a peaceful person and shouldn't be housed in a violent facility," he said. Mr. Markus said he plans to file an appellate brief with the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta later next month.

A male teacher at the Anchovy High School in St. James has been hospitalised following a stabbing incident on Monday on the school's compound.
A 14-year-old male student linked to attack was taken into police custody shortly after the incident.
According to a police source about 3:30 Monday afternoon, scores of students were inside the school cafeteria.
A male teacher assigned to monitor the cafeteria asked a few unruly students to form a proper queue.
It is not clear what transpired, however, one of the students reportedly took offence at being reprimanded.
During an altercation a lower grade student pulled a pair of scissors and lunged at the teacher stabbing him several times.
The teacher who was taken to hospital sustained injuries to the neck, back and side.
The injuries are reportedly not life threatening, however doctors are closely monitoring the lung wound.
Angry colleagues turned up for school on Monday morning but a decision was made by the administration not to conduct regular classes.
When contacted, school officials were locked inside a meeting.
Officials of the Ministry of Education's Region Four have also convened a separate meeting to discuss the stabbing incident.
Investigators are still collecting statements.

PNP to submit vote buying evidence to Ombudsman

Webmin
No Comments
The Opposition is turning up the heat on the Jamaica Labour Party following allegations on the weekend of vote buying. The People's National Party (PNP) has announced that it will be submitting evidence of the practice to Political Ombudsman Bishop Herro Blair to facilitate a probe. Addressing a PNP rally on Sunday night in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, General Secretary Peter Bunting declared that unnamed JLP members were issuing money vouchers to constituents. He likened the activity to vote buying. On Monday Bishop Blair said he was prepared to investigate Mr. Bunting's claim as soon as a complaint is forwarded to him. Dr. Peter Phillips, PNP Campaign Director, told RJR News on Monday night the Opposition has evidence that efforts are being made to influence voters and will present it to the Ombudsman. Additionally, Dr. Phillips says the Opposition will be keeping the spotlight on the JLP in the event that the practice continues. "We will send it forward to the Ombudsman so he can be alerted to it in case it rears its ugly head again elsewhere," Dr. Phillips said. When our news centre contacted senior officials of the JLP on Monday night they declined to comment on the vote buying allegations. Meanwhile, Dr. Phillips has criticised Member of Parliament for Northern Clarendon, Laurence Broderick, for putting his photograph on vouchers issued under the Human and Social Development Constituency Development Fund. Mr. Broderick is insisting that he has done nothing wrong. But according to Dr. Phillips, the practice is offensive. "It is not that people benefited from the taxpayers' money, it is that the Jamaica Labour Party was using the taxpayers' money in an effort to secure political advantage from the taxpayers' money in a crass and crude way in putting their pictures on the vouchers and suggesting that this was a JLP benefit rather than a benefit to which people are entitled from the Government of Jamaica," Dr. Phillips said.

American Airlines Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Webmin
No Comments
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- American Airlines and its parent company are filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, as they seek to cut costs and unload massive debt built up by years of high jet fuel prices and labor struggles. The nation's third-largest airline also said that CEO Gerard Arpey had stepped down and was replaced by company president Thomas W. Horton. AMR Corp. has continued to lose money while other U.S. airlines returned to profitability in the last two years. Horton said the board of directors unanimously decided to file for bankruptcy after meeting yesterday in New York and again by conference call on Monday night. American said it would operate normally while it reorganizes in bankruptcy. The airline said it would continue to operate flights, honor tickets and take reservations. It said the AAdvantage frequent-flier program would not be affected. Horton said, however, that as the company goes through a restructuring it will probably reduce the flight schedule "modestly," with corresponding cuts in jobs. The company will delay the spin-off of its regional airline operation, American Eagle, which was expected in early 2012. AMR Eagle Holding Corp. also filed for bankruptcy. American was the only major U.S. airline that didn't file for bankruptcy protection in the aftermath of the 2001 terrorist attacks that triggered a deep slump in the airline industry. The last major airline to file for bankruptcy protection was Delta in 2005.

MIAMI, CMC - United States authorities say that millions of dollars, tucked away by senior citizens for their retirement, are now ending up in the pockets of Jamaican crime syndicates. "It is a plague," said US Postal Inspector Bladismir Rojo, adding "when word-of-mouth spreads of free money, there is no way to put it out". Rojo told reporters that lottery frauds, based in Jamaica, have exploded in popularity, with estimates that as much as US$300 million will be bilked from US residents, largely the elderly, this year alone. He said proceeds from the alleged swindles are used to buy guns, drugs and flashy cars in Jamaica, with gang members sometimes fighting and dying over the illicit cash. Rojo said during this month alone, he received separate complaints involving senior citizens in Fort Lauderdale and Aventura, who each lost more than US$50,000 to Jamaican-based lottery scams. Authorities say victims of the frauds have lost homes, maxed out their credit cards and sometimes become targets of physical threats. While there are variations of the scam, the essence is always the same. Victims are informed they have won prizes or money, but to claim their winnings, they need to wire money to cover fees or taxes, Rojo said. He said once victims send money, the telemarketers press them to send more. In extreme cases, authorities say, victims have ended up losing more than US$500,000. Rojo said the telemarketers often disguise their phone numbers to make it look like they are calling from somewhere in the United States. He said sometimes the fraudsters ask for the money to be wired directly to Jamaica, while, at other times, they use middlemen in the United States, or they persuade other victims to act as intermediaries. Complaints regarding Jamaica-based scams have more than doubled in each of the last four years, skyrocketing from 1,867 in 2007 to 21,342 in 2010, according to the US Federal Trade Commission. Law enforcement officials fear the reported complaints may represent only a fraction of the true number of victims. The US immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency said it unveiled a task force in May 2009 with the Jamaican Constabulary Force, the nation's police agency, to combat the scams. Project JOLT (Jamaican Operations Linked to Telemarketing) was modeled after a similar effort established more than a decade ago to curb telemarketing fraud from Canada. Carmen Pino, ICE assistant special agent in charge for South Florida, said, in the last three years, US and Jamaican authorities have launched 389 investigations, arrested 111 people in Jamaica and the United States, and seized US$1.13 million in assets. In addition, she said US$251,000 has been returned to US victims. Pino said, in September, US and Jamaican authorities raided 12 locations and arrested 14 people in Montego Bay, the alleged hotbed for the lottery fraud in Jamaica. She also said four Jamaican men living in Pennsylvania were arrested last month, accused of convincing a Kansas man to give them US$25,000 to secure his winnings in the "Mega Million Lottery." Pino said a Deerfield Beach, South Florida man was arrested on November 19 outside his apartment as he waited for a package containing US$9,000 in cash sent by an 88-year-old Kansas man who had been told he had won a US$1 million sweepstakes. The US Postal Inspection Service said Trevor Charles Dolphy, 23, admitted that he was collecting the money for a friend nicknamed "Evil" from Montego Bay. Law enforcement officials say there is a simple rule to remember when it comes to phone calls or mailings involving lotteries. "If someone tells you that you have won a bunch of money, and they need you to pay any money for any reason, it's a fraud," said C. Steven Baker, director of the US Federal Trade Commission's Midwest Region. Baker said nearly 40 per cent of reported victims of lottery scams last year were over the age of 70.

Man sentenced for stealing ackees

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey sentenced 30 year old Junior Christie of Langward Avenue in Kingston, to three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to praedial larceny. Christie was accused of stealing 45 pods of ackee from Kings House. There were howls of protest late last week when Christie's story hit the media. The three month sentence for stealing 350 dollars worth of ackee coupled with RM Pusey's comments also got the attention of human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice. The RM was reported as saying how upset she had been when ackees in her yard were stolen. Speaking on the RJR News Centre's weekly review programme "That's a Rap", attorneys at Law Ian Wilkinson and Shirley Ann agreed that the sentence appeared excessive. Ms Eaton noted that it could be viewed that there was an imbalance in the justice system. For his part, Mr. Wilkinson noted that the RM's comments were unfortunate. In its statement on Friday Jamaicans for Justice said the sentence and the remarks reported will only serve to reinforce the widely-held belief that there is one standard of justice for the rich and another for the poor.

Fashionista Jennifer Lopez didn't go shopping on Black Friday. Instead, she feasted her eyes on Casper Smart, her 24-year-old dancer beau of just a few weeks, who doffed his top during a sexy Thanksgiving vacation in Kauai, Hawaii. New photos from Friday reveal Lopez, 42, sipping a tropical cocktail and lounging in her bikini in a cabana alongside her topless, muscular new man. As previously reported by Us Weekly, Lopez, Smart and her 3-year-old twins Max and Emme spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Hawaii. "Casper was great with the kids," a source told Us. During a Thursday outing on the beach, Smart (who's performed with Lopez onstage numerous times) "was twirling them around and doing flips with Emme and she seemed very comfortable with him." Two Sundays ago -- following a hot performance at the American Music Awards -- the new couple packed on the PDA at a post-AMAs bash in L.A. No word yet on whether Lopez and Smart are exclusive. In early November, Lopez hooked up with ex Marc Anthony (they split in July after seven years of marriage) in Puerto Rico.

A Jamaican drug dealer, who was jailed for gun crime in the United Kingdom, has won his human rights case, which allows him to stay in Britain partly because he would return to a life of crime if he was deported. Andre James convinced judges that deporting him to Jamaica would make him more likely to reoffend - even though the home secretary wanted him removed from the country. This after he was jailed for five years in 2007 for possessing a revolver and ammunition, supplying class "A" drugs, carrying a blade in public and being in possession of criminal property. Mr. James was also allowed to stay on the grounds that his human right to a family life would be infringed by being forcibly returned, because he has two children in Britain. According to the Telegraph, the case highlights growing concerns over the use of human rights legislation by foreign criminals to frustrate legislation, which makes it clear that anyone serving more than a year in prison should be automatically deported. Coalition ministers have launched a review of the way the crucial element of the law, the controversial article 8 of the convention on human rights - which guarantees a right to a private and family life - is being used.

November 26, 2011: - Ace disc jock, Collin Hines, is eagerly anticipating his maiden voyage to the Middle East where he is scheduled to play at an exclusive 80's party in Abu Dhabi, which is part of the United Arab Emirates(UAE). Dubbed Nostalgia, the event is being marketed as "Abu Dhabi's first Exclusive 80's Dance Party. Relive the era when everything was bigger, louder and brighter." The party will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on December 8 and will also feature the skills of another renowned Jamaican disc jockey, Delano of Renaissance Disco. The conceptualiser of the event is Jamaican Mandi Bent, who has been working in Abu Dhabi for the past six years as Event Director at the Dome Exhibition Centre. She explained that there is a community of Caribbean and UK expatriates thirsty for this kind of entertainment, therefore the decision was made to fill their cup. Bent sees this as a milestone in shaping and diversifying the entertainment offering in the Emirates, adding that the response has definitely been encouraging. She noted that in planning the event she went after 'A' list disc jockeys who have a keen sense of "situation appropriate" and the knowledge base to respond musically to any given situation. In their promotion and marketing efforts, the organizers have been using the social network options available, including placing an ad on youtube, voiced by The Captain Collin Hines. According to Mandi, in the next few weeks, all her systems will be in high gear as preparations are pumped up. As for Hines, he has declared that the turn of events that have led to this posting is nothing short of "serendipitous". Quizzed about his strategy for this trail-blazing event, The Captain, who always has a whole lot to say, paused briefly. "Actually, there's no specific plan," he confessed, seeming to edit his words as he spoke. "We are going to Abu Dhabi with an open mind and lots of music. The challenge will be for us to be as octopus as possible and have our musical tentacles out and ready. Musically, you have to think cosmopolitan, and since music is our forte, then that in itself will not be difficult," Hines added. He emphasized that his objective is to represent Jamaica so well that "we will return again and again". "We intend to entertain the crowd, enjoy ourselves in the process and just 'shell dung di place'. Mission accomplished ... Abu Dhabi will come calling again," Hines said with a huge smile.

As I deepen my understanding of myself, I become increasingly aware of my oneness with God. I commit to daily prayer and meditation. I view challenges as opportunities to practice the principles I know. I contemplate the personal meaning of Scripture and apply timeless truths to everyday situations. Reading the words of Jesus, I am inspired anew: "If you continue in my word ... you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." As a student of Truth, I embrace and enhance my study by exploring the meaning of spiritual teachings and apply what I learn. I put principle to work in my life. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend ... what is the breadth and length and height and depth.--Ephesians 3:18

My hope for world leaders is for mindful awareness of the good in all people; my hope for those with influence is for generosity; and my hope for those in need is to find their faith in the Divine within, allowing them to experience joy, peace and fulfillment. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace.--Romans 15:13

Lady Gaga has said and done a lot of bizarre, outrageous things throughout her career. So I'm glad she's finally saying something that makes sense. The singer says the type of man she's attracted to varies a lot, but there is one quality she would like her guy to have--a good education. Yes, Lady Gaga needs someone who can match or surpass her in intelligence. She needs someone to challenge her intellect, preferably with a degree from an Ivy League university. Either that, or he has to have a big penis. "Talent and perseverance and pushing the boundaries of love and acceptance," Gaga said of what it takes for a man to win her over. "I don't know. I can't really say. It ranges from a really big [penis] to a degree at Harvard. Just about anything." Lady Gaga has been on and off with her drummer/bartender boyfriend, Luc Carl, even before she rose to fame. Curretly, their relationship status is off. But not to worry, they'll probably be back on by the time you're done reading. For the past two years, Gaga has been on tour, traveling the world. And recently, she's discussed her reluctance to settle down by owning a home. "I'm not ready to buy a house," Gaga said. "It feels like marriage or something. It's like such a commitment. I don't like it." On Thanksgiving, ABC aired A Very Gaga Thanksgiving. Because when I think of turkey day, I think of a wacky pop star who wears horns for the hell of it. But anyway, needless to say, the special was weird, and one of the weird things they revealed was that Lady Gaga got naked for Tony Bennett. The singer posed nude for Bennett so he could draw her for an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. For Lady Gaga, this must have been a wonderfully iconic moment in her career. For Tony Bennett, he got to see a naked chick. Gaga explained the situation: "I walked in and said, 'Well, Tony, here we are,' and I dropped my robe and I got into position. I felt shy and thought 'It's Tony Bennett, why am I naked?'" A very sensible question. But Gaga went with it anyway. Because In addition to his legendary career as a multi-plantinum recording artist, Tony Bennett has also made a name for himself as a painter. His work is actually featured at the Smithsonian and National Arts Club.

PSJ President interdicted

There is a fire storm brewing between the Ministry of Health and the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica after the association's President Valerie Germaine was interdicted. The disciplinary action was taken against Mrs. Germaine after comments she made in the media. Mrs. Germaine, who appeared on TVJ's Smile Jamaica two weeks ago, reiterated the association's cry for the government to desist from the use of pharmacy technicians to dispense drugs at public health facilities. The Pharmaceutial Society is fuming on Friday afternoon after the president of the organization was interdicted by the Ministry of Health on November 16, a week after she appeared on Smile Jamaica, pointing out inadequacies in the system of drug dispensing at public hospitals. This was the comment in question: "Section 18 of the law is very clear. It says compounding and dispensing of pharmaceuticals must take place in facilities where you have registered pharmacists but the Ministry of Health is currently using pharmacy technicians to dispense and compound drugs on their own, the government is breaking its own law." The association has had an emergency meeting on the matter and although not disclosing its next move says it is not taking the matter lightly.

SET FREE
I forgive and experience lasting peace and freedom. When I consider forgiving someone, my body may respond in various ways. I may feel a tightness in my chest from anger or resistance. Or I may sense a peaceful, inner knowing that I am ready to let my resentment go. I choose today to be set free through the act of forgiveness. As I forgive, my body releases stress and strain. I open to receive God's peace and love as I release the burden of anger and hostility. Greater blessings await me, as I set aside condemning thoughts and attitudes. I am uplifted and my load is lightened. I forgive myself and others, and love the people in my life unconditionally. I embrace a new way of thinking and living. Through forgiveness, I am set free! For freedom Christ has set us free.--Galatians 5:1

They say no press is bad press, but Justin Bieber might have actually turned his baby daddy drama into good press. Bieber has been "staying positive" in the middle of the media frenzy, showing that he's more level-headed than most Hollywood superstars. Also, this whole thing has been great for promoting his upcoming Christmas album. On Tuesday, Justin appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to talk about all this paternity nonsense. Oh, and don't forget, he has a new album. "It's pretty crazy. People make up false accusations. It's gonna happen, being in the spotlight," the seventeen year-old pop star told Letterman. Letterman said that he never believed the accusations, saying he "saw red" when he heard about them. "I could smell a weasel," Letterman told him. And Bieber agreed: "I can smell a weasel, too." Justin confirmed on the show that he did indeed take that DNA test to prove that he's not the father of Mariah Yeater's baby. Of course, Letterman just had to know how he gave up his DNA, and Bieber revealed that the doctors swabbed his mouth. Letterman joked: "Is there disrobing?" David Letterman needs a bonus for having to ask that question. Bieber replied: "No, no, I don't think so!" Bieber hasn't been slowing down. After his appearance on Letterman, he had a huge concert on the Today show, which involved special guest Usher. And after that, Justin appeared on The View. On the show, Whoopi Goldberg couldn't help but notice the hair growing on her guest's upper lip. Justin explained: "It's for Movember." Movember is a movement that happens each November, where men grow facial hair to raise awareness for men's health issues. According to the Movember website, the goal is to raise awareness to the cancers that affect men.

The DJ Got Us Falling In Love singer was seen taking his boys Usher V, three and Naviya, two, for a stroll in Manhattan before popping into the Balloon Store. The 33-year-old singer was happy to shower his sons with attention and was seen giving his eldest child a kiss and a cuddle. After their shopping spree the singer was seen carrying their goods home in the push chairs. Usher looked effortlessly cool in a pair of green trousers, a dark coat and a scarf. Meanwhile his sons were also sporting suitably stylish ensembles but were wrapped up warm against the chilly temperatures. The children's mother and Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster was not with the group. Recently it was revealed Usher had offered his protégée Justin Bieber advice in the wake of allegations made by a fan that he was the father of her child. The pair have had a close relationship and the 17-year-old tween pop star says that mentor Usher, who discovered and signed the star, is like his own personal 'Dr. Phil.'

Divine Love blesses and multiplies all that I have, all that I give and all that I receive. My heart is filled with thankfulness for the continuous flow of God's good. And while I earnestly give thanks for specific things, occurrences and people, I also maintain a grateful state of mind regardless of outer circumstances. I appreciate the world in which I live, its wonder and its opportunity. I grow in understanding as I experience all that life holds. The Christ Presence within me is my resource for living each day fully and confidently. It is the original blessing and the underlying foundation for a grateful heart. My prayer is one of simple thanksgiving. As the great Christian mystic Meister Eckhart once said, "If the only prayer you ever say is 'thank you,' that would suffice." FAITH

I choose to live by faith. I understand many things in life intellectually or because my senses prove them to be true. Other things I know intuitively, but cannot prove; I accept them on faith. When I plant seeds, I have faith they will produce the desired fruit, flower or vegetable. When I am confused about the direction of my life, I have faith that the wisdom of God is my guiding principle, leading me along the path toward my highest good. I have faith that I am one with God and that wherever I am, whatever I am doing, my center is the Divine within--a center of love, peace and harmony. I choose to live by faith, and I am calm, confident and at peace. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.--Matthew 17:20

Vybz Kartel is now being probed in relation to five other murder cases. Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is now before the courts in relation to two murder cases. However, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell, said probes carried out by detectives have implicated Kartel in five additional murders that took place in the Corporate Area and St Catherine. US authorities find major drug tunnel in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- An estimated 17 tons of marijuana were seized in the discovery of a cross-border tunnel that authorities said Wednesday was one of the most significant secret drug smuggling passages ever found on the U.S.-Mexico border. The tunnel discovered Tuesday stretched about 400 yards (400 meters) and linked warehouses in San Diego and Tijuana, authorities said. U.S. authorities seized about nine tons of marijuana inside a truck and at the warehouse in San Diego's Otay Mesa area, said Derek Benner, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent in charge of investigations in San Diego. Mexican authorities recovered about eight tons south of the border. Authorities spoke at a news conference near packages of seized dope festooned with labels of Captain America, Sprite and Bud Light. The markings are codes to identify the owners. Photos taken by Mexican authorities show an entry blocked by bundles that were likely stuffed with marijuana, said Paul Beeson, chief of the Border Patrol's San Diego sector. Tunnel walls were lined with wood supports. The passage was equipped with lighting and ventilation systems. The tunnel was about four feet high and three feet wide. It dropped about 20 feet on the U.S. side. Two men allegedly seen leaving the warehouse in a truck packed with about three tons of pot were pulled over Tuesday on a highway in suburban La Mesa and arrested. A California Highway Patrol officer was overwhelmed by the smell, according to a federal complaint. Cesar Beltran and Ruben Gomez each face a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, said Alana Robinson, chief of the U.S. attorney's narcotics enforcement section in San Diego. They were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. Cross-border tunnels have proliferated in recent years, but the latest find is one of the more significant, based on the amount of drugs seized.

Baby (Justin Bieber song)

So one of two things happened: The real father came back to get his dang ol'ed baby, or she's scared Beliebers really are going to kill her. Mariah Yeater, the woman who held steadfast by her claims that Justin Bieber was the father of her child, dismissed her paternity lawsuit against the singer. Somehow, the suit was dismissed quietly under the radar last week. Yeater's lawyers, Lance Rogers and Matt Pare, have bailed on her. Yes, they both withdrew from the case. I'm guessing Bieber's lawyers asked to use Yeater's crazy Facebook photo as evidence in his defense, and her lawyers said, "we're f-cked." Justin Bieber planned to take a DNA test when he returned to the U.S.

According to a statement from the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) on Monday night, a member of the medical staff at Cornwall Regional encountered an armed intruder in her assigned room. The incident followed the reported assault of a woman by an intruder on the hospital compound two weeks ago and the attempted rape of a doctor in August. The association said it is tired of empty promises by the Ministry of Health and issued another warning that its members will not provide medical attention if their personal security is in jeopardy.

ACCEPTANCE
I accept and bless myself and others. Acceptance is a powerful word, for it implies a willingness to listen and be open. Acceptance does not necessarily mean that I adopt another's point of view; it means I accept the right of another to have views different from my own. I accept people of different faiths, cultures and lifestyles. Each person is a child of God--divinely created and divinely guided. I accept myself as well. I do not judge harshly my past mistakes or perceived short-comings. I give myself the freedom to make mistakes, to have a unique point of view and to continue to learn and grow as a spiritual being. By accepting myself and others, I embrace differences and celebrate the uniqueness of every individual. Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.--Matthew 7:1

Healing

With gratitude, I accept health and wholeness. I have been given a great gift--the gift of my physical body. It is the housing for my spirit and my soul. I demonstrate gratitude for this gift by treating my body with love and respect. When I am tempted to fall into habits or ways of being that don't support my highest good, I call myself higher. I listen to the wisdom of my body temple and respond to the messages I hear. My inner voice guides me to make life-affirming choices. I think and speak in positive, uplifting ways. I envision myself healthy and whole. Each cell of my body responds to my loving, peaceful thoughts. With gratitude, I welcome and accept healing and wholeness. Peace, peace, to the far and the near, says the Lord; and I will heal them. --Isaiah 57:19

Chino to release love songs

#BigShip artiste, Chino, will be releasing a slew of new singles in a few weeks, some of which will be ballads. He says there has not been a permanent shift in his lyrics or style, instead, "I like exploring new genres, beats and topics and some of the songs that will be released shortly will be more singing than singjaying. There's even a combination with myself and Di Genius singing called So Do I for the ladies - that will be hitting the airwaves in a few days." "...There's also the single, Desert Rose, which is out now with myself and an artiste out of Cayman by the name of Jeffery Wilson and the video will be released in a few days, so everyone can definitely look out for those and other singles coming in a few weeks," he says. Chino is no stranger to style exploration. In May of this year, Chino showcased his expansive knowledge of music when he released his debut US album, Chino, to rave reviews. The first two releases from the album, I Am (an upbeat club track with a French twist) and Seal Di Link (a slow provocative reggae ballad) were complete departures from Chino's prior style. Seal Di Link went on to top charts in the US and sold in excess of 150, 000 on iTunes during the first week of its release. Likewise, one of his most recent love ballads, Driving Me Insane featuring singer #Denyque, which was also featured on the album, has been a hit among fans. "Music is definitely one of the loves of my life, and as a result of that, I'm always going to be focused on it and exploring new areas and genres in an effort to please the fans," he says. Chino is also popularly known for his hits From Mawnin, Ruff It Up, Protected, Pon Yuh Head, Yeah Yeah (on the Peppa Riddim) and others.

Dancehall deejay, Alley Cat, aka Imperial, is currently making the rounds as he vigorously promotes his latest album, Dancehall Knowledge Volume 2. Quite excited about his latest project, Alley Cat, who changed his moniker to Imperial some years ago, has been studying various aspects of the music business in an effort to become more rounded. Having been on the music scene since 1996, the deejay has seen and has done many things and is now at a point where he feels comfortable managing his own affairs. "I have gone to school to study studio engineering and also learned to play the guitar. I gained a lot of hands-on experience just by being an artiste and working with some of the best producers, engineers and promoters in the music business," explained the deejay who was christened Albert Richards. He noted that Dancehall Knowledge Volume I signaled his intention to be a triple threat - artiste, song-writer and producer - and with this latest offering, he feels he has definitely come into his own. "I am not blowing my own trumpet, but the album is an interesting mix of clean, positive songs. I have stayed true to form and have delivered a product that I am confident the buying public will like," Alley Cat aka Imperial said. Dancehall Knowledge Volume II features collaboration with the Monster Hemphigher as well as Ikaya, whose vocals can be heard song, Virtuous Woman, which is one of the singles being promoted and getting a lot of attention from music lovers. In addition to the album, he has a slew of singles making noise on the scene, including Party Spree, Finally, Bruk Out feat. Stone and Miss Independent. Alley Cat, aka Imperial says his guiding principles in the business are excellence and commitment. Currently, he travels between Florida and Jamaica and is enjoying full international recognition, especially in the US, where radio is showing him much love. Between his own tracks and the work being done for other artists, Alley Cat has more than good reason to be optimistic. He's getting great response from the material that's out now, but has no intention of succumbing to complacency. Dancehall Knowledge Volume II was released in October and is distributed in the US by Island Entertainment. It is available on all major digital download stores including Amazon, iTunes and Rhapsody

The Art of Music Productions (AMP) is the new company that will produce the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival 2012.Making the announcement at the launch of the event yesterday at the Iberostar Suites in Montego Bay, AMP's CEO, Stephen Dear, said TurnKey Productions, under whom the event has been produced for the last 16 years, have been relinquished.Walter Elmore remains chairman and executive producer of the festival, but has added a fresh team from the business community that includes marketer Oliver Mair and accountant Winsome Minott. Financial guru Leo Williams complements an older group of directors which includes artiste management agent Jerome Hamilton, hotelier Carol Bourke and engineer Martin Elmore. Future revenue streams for the AMP will include large-scale music festivals; ticketing/box-office services; talent booking and artiste management; theatrical productions; equipment rentals and multimedia services. "Turnkey was quite a popular name worldwide and, therefore, difficult to do international business, and so the name-change process started five years ago," revealed Dear. With AMP's first major event being Jamaica Jazz and Blues 2012, the group announced a mega line-up of artistes who will perform come January 26, closing with headline act Celine Dion on the 28th. "Bringing an act the magnitude of a Celine Dion is something I have dreamt of since the day I started the Jazz festival 16 years ago," Walter Elmore admitted, adding that he never thought he would be able to do it. With admiration, the AMP chairman spoke of the multi-million-dollar album seller, Dion, "A factor in the entertainment, when you see a Celine Dion performance, it is etched in your mind," he asserted. "We wanted a name that was versatile and spoke to the product we currently offer," he concluded. Dion, who really does not share the limelight with other artistes because of her reputation, will play alongside Kelly Rowland, Jamaican-Canadian Jully Black and jazz great Nicole Henry, an amazing performer who graced the stage in 2004. In celebration of Jamaica's 50th year of Independence, AMP has announced a stellar mix of musicians who will showcase the evolution of the country's music. They include Toots Hibbert, Marcia Griffiths, Yellow Man, #Shaggy, John Holt and Half Pint. Celebrating its 17th year in 2012, Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival will operate with one of the largest budgets ever, said the new CEO. He estimates that the event will cost approximately US$3 million.

Cayman Islands ease visa restrictions for Jamaicans

Webmin

There has been a slight ease in the visa requirements for Jamaicans entering the Cayman Islands. Under regulations approved by Cabinet, Jamaicans younger than 15 and older than 70 will no longer require a visa to enter. According to Caymanian officials, the change was requested as part of an easing of visa requirements sought by the country's government. Immigration law regulations state that all countries within the British Commonwealth can have their nationals land within the Cayman Islands without producing a visa, with the exception of eleven countries, including Jamaica. The change to visa requirements follows the refusal of Cayman Islands Governor Duncan Taylor in September to endorse a Cabinet proposal to ease visa requirements for Jamaican nationals. Governor Taylor cited concerns over national security in doing so.

INNER PEACE In the Silence, I find peace. My peaceful place is not a room or a spot on the map. My peaceful place is a state of consciousness. The moment I turn my attention away from the outer world, I begin my journey into the Silence. With eyes closed, my heart knows the way. The rhythm of my breath carries me as if I were lying in a gently rocking boat. Troubled thoughts, fears and concerns fall away as I move deeper. I go within and rest from the cares and busyness of my day. I am a spiritual being; I am God's peace in expression. When I resume my usual activities, I remain centered in inner peace. My words are kinder. I am slow to anger and patient with myself and others. I am at peace. Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people. --Psalm 85:8

Kartel says his legal team remains the same

Kartel says his legal team remains the same One of the attorneys for popular Jamaican artiste Vybz Kartel, yesterday released a letter over the entertainer's signature dismissing media reports that they have been sacked. "I have not authorised any change in my legal team in whom I have the fullest confidence," read a section of the three-paragraph letter signed by the artiste, whose given name is Adidja Palmer. The letter blindsided attorney-at-law Hannah Harris-Barrington, who yesterday repeated claims she made in a radio interview on Monday that she has been retained to represent the entertainer. Harris-Barrington, who is also the attorney for another jailed dancehall star Ninja Man - given name Desmond Ballentyne - told The Gleaner she has two letters, given to her by Palmer during separate jailhouse visits last week, to support her claim. "I really don't know what is happening," she said. Despite this, Harris-Barrington said she was willing to step away from the case. "If that (Palmer's letter) has today's (yesterday's) date then that must mean he has given them back the case and that's fine," she said. Palmer, in the letter released through his attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, said: "I have not retained or engaged the services of Hannah Harris-Barrington to represent me in any matter and she is not authorised to speak on my behalf or to discuss my case." His letter added "This serves to confirm that I have retained the services of attorneys-at-law Tom Tavares-Finson, Michael Deans and Chris Tavares-Finson to represent me in all the matters for which I am currently before the court." Palmer is facing two murder charges arising from the deaths of businessman/promoter Barrington Burton and Clive Williams in separate incidents in July and August this year. Burton was shot dead while standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine, while Williams was beaten and stabbed to death in Havendale, St Andrew. He has been in custody since October 1 when he and three other persons were arrested at a New Kingston hotel for possession of ganja.

Joe Frazier: The peoples' champ

Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, Philadelphia, PA...

(National Review) "Don't you know I'm God?" taunted Muhammad Ali, in the first of the epic trilogy of heavyweight prizefights with Joe Frazier that defined the early 1970s. Ali even took to accompanying each word -- Don't -- you -- know -- I'm -- God? -- with a swing of his fists, unleashing another flurry of his lightning-fast punches. Frazier, undaunted, singularly unaffected by Ali's sophomoric doggerel and sophisticated psy-ops, kept boring in on his opponent, a steady, bobbing, weaving machine, and spat back through his bloodied mouthpiece: "Well, God, you gonna get whupped tonight!" And very near the end of that first encounter between them, on March 8, 1971 -- the Madison Square Garden spectacular between two undefeated heavyweight champions, billed, without hyperbole, as the Fight of the Century -- Frazier made good on his promise. It was 26 seconds into the 15th round. With his signature roundhouse left hook -- the 30th he'd landed, the final explosion in a breathtaking night of fireworks -- Frazier connected with Ali's right jaw, snapping his head back and dropping The Greatest to the canvas. Bedlam at the Garden! Ali was up quickly, but with that one punch, "Smokin' Joe" entered the ranks of the immortal, one of only two professional fighters ever to put Ali down. The pride of Philadelphia had answered definitively, at least for one night, the questions that haunted boxing, and America at large, at the close of the fiery Sixties. Who would triumph: the beautiful dancer and satirical poet, or the grunting, uneducated working man? Was history on the side of anti-establishment rebels and countercultural heroes, or unalloyed toughness and Richard Nixon's silent majority? At last, America had an answer: The uglier man, the less captivating figure, the African American who was darker and came from more impoverished southern origins, but whom Ali derided, inexplicably and unforgivably, as the Uncle Tom between them, the traitor to his people; yes, for one night, this man, Joe Frazier, would prevail. "What a man!" marveled screen legend Burt Lancaster, of Frazier, in his ringside color commentary. For those of a different mindset, the great event proved altogether depressing. "A very painful experience in every way," Hunter S. Thompson lamented in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, "a proper end to the Sixties . . . [with] Cassius/Ali belted incredibly off his pedestal by a human hamburger, a man on the verge of death. Joe Frazier, like Nixon, had finally prevailed for reasons that people like me refused to understand -- at least not out loud."

Guidance, Ico Flamez rocking Africa

Reggae singer, Guidance and singjay Ico Flamez, are getting major attention with their collaboration, By The Window, which is # 13 on the highly recognized Stepping Razor chart in Africa and still climbing. Music insiders agree that these two Rastafarian artistes have surely done justice to this compelling love song, produced by Portmore-based producer, Shaka Indian. "It's really cool to see these two Rasta artistes sincerely pouring out their hearts about a woman," one radio disc jockey commented. Unfortunately, despite giving their all, the woman leaves and the artistes are in misery, sitting at the window, hoping that one day she will return. It's a theme which many persons - male and female - can identify with, and it's all the more inspiring that it's from a male perspective. Although Sitting By The Window is Guidance and Ico Flamez' only collaboration so far, they both have their solo repertoires which they have been unleashing at various stage shows across the island. They recently performed at the popular Plug 'n' Play at the Wyndham Hotel in New Kingston and also did a slot on morning television, both of which were very well received. "We are really happy and humbled at the way how things have been shaping up. Lots of respect to the management team and to the fans. We 'appreci-love' all the support and we will always take the higher ground. Motherland, here we come," declared Guidance, who is signed to Brown Brothers. With a video now ready, shows lined up for the festive season and an Africa tour on the horizon, both artistes preparing to savour the sweet taste of success.

JOY
I am thrilled with the joy of living. Have I been merely existing rather than knowing the full joy of living? To experience the transformative power of joy, I let the Christ Spirit move in me. I act from Christ consciousness and allow it to inform my thoughts, lighten and lift my vision, and create about me an atmosphere of peace and happiness. Joy is a result of interest and awareness, of active appreciation and creative expression. I take time to be interested in my neighbor's welfare and offer a helping hand. I see the beauty of nature and hear music in the hum of the day's activities. I recognize the Christ in myself and in others. I let my soul be thrilled and exalted as I actively and purposefully take joy in living a full and complete life. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.--Isaiah 12:3

NEW YORK (AP) -- Kim Kardashian is "heartbroken" over her decision to divorce professional basketball player Kris Humphries after only two months of marriage, but life will go on, her mother says. "Just because somebody is getting a divorce doesn't mean life is over," mom Kris Jenner said. "She's not the first person to get a divorce, and she won't be the last, no matter what the length of the marriage." Jenner, who divorced Kardashian's father, O.J. Simpson's attorney Robert Kardashian, in the early 1990s and is married to former Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bruce Jenner, said reports her reality TV star daughter's relationship was made for TV are false. "That would be insulting to this wonderful viewership that has followed us from Day 1," she said. "I don't think any of us are in that kind of situation where we have to go out and ... create opportunities to make more money. I think we are just fine." She also said the family members won't stop sharing their lives with the public. "(The breakup) doesn't mean that the rest of us are going to change our personalities in any way and, you know, completely turn into different people," she said Thursday. "We're going to carry on and hopefully be much stronger as human beings and as a family." After Kardashian, 31, filed for divorce last week, citing irreconcilable differences, she left for a business trip to Australia with her sister Khloe Kardashian.

Last Wednesday, November 2, was the 81 anniversary of the crowning of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie and Twelve Tribes of Israel members around the globe held festive celebrations. In Toronto, the event saw both established artistes and upcoming acts paying tribute to the Emperor in song. And it would be fair to say that all the acts upheld the order and gave performances which befitted the occasion. Among the established acts was reggae singer, Colin Levy, aka Iley Dred, who used prayer and praises as the hallmark of his performance. The short Rastafarian, who always seems to grow in stature whenever he hits the stage, opened his set with a riveting prayer that paradoxically calmed and energized the gathering. Levy's five-song set proved to be way too short and included Forever Praising Jah; Toronto's favourite, Picture On The Wall; Rocky Road (Mighty Diamonds); Crown Her A Queen, from his upcoming album, Unleashed and his number 1 hit, Lovers Holiday. Other artistes who performed included Orthodox Issachar, one of the organizers and brother of Colin Levy; female acts Tanya P, Donna Makeda and Tasha T; Axe, Prince Everald and Treeson, an artiste to definitely watch out for.

Miss Venezuela Ivian Sarcos reacts as she is crowned winner at the Miss World competition held at Earls Court in London, Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011
Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 2011 winner of the Miss World beauty pageant on Sunday at a glittering final ceremony in London. Wearing a pink dress with diamante studs that had a giant cascade of frills slashed below the waist, the 22-year-old gasped and threw her hands to her face as she was declared the winner. "I felt the most gorgeous woman in the world. I was so happy and I wanted to shout, to cry, to stand still and to smile. So many emotions," she told AFP. "I'm incredibly happy for this moment, for this opportunity and for winning and I'm grateful with my life." Sarcos, who was brought up in a nunnery after being orphaned aged eight, has a human resources degree and works for a broadcasting company. Last year's Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, took off her sparkling crown and placed it on her successor's head as Sarcos sat in a shimmering silver throne. Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the runner-up, while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, came third in the contest, which was back in its home city to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Some 113 beauty queens from Albania to Zimbabwe took their place on the stage at the Earls Court Two auditorium in west London, with the show being broadcast live to an estimated audience of more than one billion viewers in 150 countries. Around 50 feminists rallied outside, waving placards reading "Objectification won't achieve world peace", "Being a woman is not a competition" and "Sexism is pretty ugly". A handful were veterans of the infamous 1970 Miss World final protest, when stink bombs were hurled on stage during a noisy demonstration. The thousands of fans inside -- many dressed to the nines -- cheered, waved flags and shouted for their favourites. Several point-scoring rounds were held over the previous two weeks during the contestants' tour of Britain, with the results revealed on stage and the top 15 going through to the semi-finals. While beauty remains central to the event, brains, skills and good causes also play a major role. The majority of this year's have degree-level education and can speak at least three languages.

US investigates Sandals hotel

The Sunday Herald cover story proclaims, 'US probes Sandals; Hotel chain allegedly paid US$1.6 million to ex Turks and Caicos premier (Michael Missick). According to the report, the United States Department of Homeland Security is investigating whether Sandals Resorts International or its chairman, Gordon 'Butch' Stewart made political contributions to the seeming benefit of disgraced former Turks and Caicos premier, Michael Missick. The Sunday Herald interviewed investigator Brian McCormick, who was in Jamaica recently collecting statements and questioning persons, including former top Sandals executive, Dr Jeffrey Pine. Pyne is said to be the defendant in a multimillion dollar lawsuit in the Bahamian Supreme Court. According to the newspaper, the US is probing Sandals' operation in the Turks and Caicos islands, where it is alleged that US$1.65 million of the resort chain's funds was improperly transferred through the Bahamas to Missick. Details of the US probe are revealed in a legal action filed in the Bahamas Supreme Court on behalf of Bahamas-domiciled Sandals Resorts International 2000, a company that acts as the parent for numerous entities that own Sandals hotels throughout the Caribbean. Several telephone calls to Sandals' legal officer Dmitri Singh's office in Montego Bay were reportedly not returned. The action, filed on June 30, 2011, alleges that Dr Jeffrey Pyne, a former director of Sandals Resorts International 2000, and the group's former treasurer and governmental liaison officer, breached his fiduciary duty and employment contract by causing the Bahamian company and other Sandals entity to make a series of seven purportedly unauthorised wired transfers to three Turks and Caicos-based companies between March 3 2005 and October 26, 2006. The three entities that received the wire transfers included two law firms, Chalmers & Coe and Missick a& Stanbrook, both of which were headed by two of Michael Missick's brothers, Chal and Ariel. The other firm, Prestigious Propertities, is a real estate company run by another of Missick's brothers, Washington. Sandals Resorts Interntional 2000, in its statement of Claim, is alleging that the seven wire transfers totalling US$1.65 million, "were not made for any legitimate, commercial or other purpose of the plaintiff's business or interest". In further claims that "the purpose of most of the transfers" was to equip the three Turks and Caicos companies with funds "to pay the debts of certain third parties in Turks and Caicos", a cryptic reference to Michael Missick. Sandals is seeking the return of its allegedly missing US$1.65 million, either through the recovery of the original funds, or compensation from Dr Pyne. In his defence, Pyne has charged that the Bahamian action initiated against him, stems "from an investigation being carried out by the United States authorities in respect of whether Sandals or Gordon 'Butch' Stewart made political contributions to Michael Missick". "Based on the same, Mr Stewart has wrongfully sought to allege that I, in my capacity as managing director of Gorstew, forwarded the funds to Michael Missick without Mr Stewart's approval or instructions," Dr Pyne explained. "This is a fabrication which I have strenuously denied, and have taken steps to explain my involvement", In a September 22, 2011 affidavit, Dr Pyne alleged that the Bahamian Supreme Court action had been filed to avoid litigation in either the Turks & Caicos or Jamaica, and that Sandals was merely forum shopping. "The flow of all funds through the resort chain Dr Pyne alleged was controlled by Mr Stewart through Unique Vacations, Sandals' worldwide marketing and reservations agent, and Phyllis Thompson in Barbados. All payments of special requests or unusual bills had to be approved by Mr Stewart, Dr Pyne claimed. The Sunday Herald story noted that in response, via an October 21, 2011 affidavit, Dmitri Singh alleged that Dr Pyne was merely seeking to besmirch Sandals' and Mr Stewart's reputation by revealing the US investigations. Singh also admitted that there was an ongoing investigation by the US authorities into Sandals affairs in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

The Court of Appeal is today expected to begin hearing an application brought by former police superintendent Harry 'Bungles' Daley against his corruption conviction and sentencing. Daley, who is out on bail, was convicted of extortion in 2009 and sentenced to 18 months in prison. The former head of the St Catherine North Police was held during a sting operation on Arnold Road, Kingston, on July 31, 2008 collecting $15,000 in marked notes from businessman Tafari Clarke. Clarke was said to be paying protection money for a plaza in Ewarton St Catherine. However, Daley claimed that the funds he collected were for a loan owed to him by Clarke's father. In handing down sentencing, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said the breach of Section 14 of the Corruption Prevention Act, was grave and that the senior policeman had flagrantly abused his position.

LOS ANGELES, Calif: David Heron, the award winning, Jamaican born playwright, producer and one of the most successful Caribbean actors of the past decade, has landed the lead role in the new Xoom.com TV ad for its new mobile site, which rolls out in the Diaspora on November 9. Heron, who flew to Los Angles to shoot the flick, was extremely elated about the role. "I'm really happy to be associated with this great product, which enables our Jamaicans here in the USA to easily and conveniently remit funds home with their mobile phone," Heron said with a beaming smile. With the new Xoom.com mobile site, the Diaspora can send money to Jamaica from anywhere, anytime using their Smartphone. Their loved one can pick up the money in minutes at over 100 locations islandwide, including Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) and Capital & Credit's Reggae Money Express. Customers can also send money directly to their loved one's bank account at any bank in Jamaica, that way they can receive the money safely and securely without leaving home. Customers can access the new Xoom mobile site by visitingxoom.com on their iPhone, Android Phone or any other Smartphone. "Our mobile site is especially convenient for Jamaicans who don't have time to go to the money transfer location between jobs or who don't have Internet access at home," said Jamaican-born Julian King, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Xoom. Heron, who performed some of his own stunts in the commercial, added "Filming the commercial was a blast, with a terrific and professional cast and crew. But, the best part for me was doing some of my own stunts -- riding on a pink bicycle meant for a five year old girl! Holding on to the back of a moving truck while riding a bike half my size is now the essence of cool for me! I would do it again in a second!" Jamaican born actress Kimberly Whittaker, who played Heron's wife in the Xoom commercial, has had guest roles on ABC's "Castle," "The Closer," "Law and Order LA," and NBC's "Outlaw." She has also starred on ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show." She will play the lead role "Kathleen" in her first 3D Sci-Fi movie "Exedia Nation" later this year.

HARMONY
I live in harmony with my life's unfolding.

The leaf does not complain about the hot sun or the cold rain. When it falls, it does not blame the stream that carries it away. It simply lives and grows and changes in harmony with all that is.

In my life, I experience times of joy and of sorrow, times of rest and of great change. I release the struggle to make outer conditions different than they are. I find peace in living in harmony with my life's path. I am God's beloved child, comforted in sad times and wise and strong in times of change. There is nothing to fear from the events of my life.

I know this truth: No outer condition is forever. Free from judgment and blame, I live in harmony with my life's unfolding.

Agree with God, and be at peace; in this way good will come to you. --Job 22:21

Kim Kardashian Divorce: Where Is Kris Humphries?

Kris Humphries

Kim Kardashian attending Maxim's 10th Annual H...

On Monday, when his wife Kim Kardashian shockingly filed for divorce in L.A. after 72 days of marriage, Humphries was sweating it out -- at a gym in his Minnesota hometown. A witness saw the NBA star, 26, "working out intensely," with his wedding ring still on his finger. Intimating he was blindsided by Kardashian's move, he told Us Weekly in a statement that day: "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work." Still, by Thursday, Humphries hit the same gym for another workout -- but this time, he was photographed with his wedding ring conspicuously missing from his finger. Did Humphries ever confide in his pals about marital woes with Kardashian, 31? "He didn't discuss it -- he's a very private guy," groomsman Anthony Polski tells the new Us Weekly. "The news is a shock. And, as his distraught future ex Kardashian cut her promotional Australian tour short Thursday, Humphries similarly nixed plans to host a party at Chateau Gardens this weekend in Las Vegas. "We can confirm that Kris Humphries has rescheduled his appearance at Chateau Gardens in Las Vegas," a rep for Chateau Gardens tells Us. "While he works through this very private matter, his friends here at Chateau Gardens understand and look forward to welcoming him back to Las Vegas when he will return to celebrate his birthday." What went wrong so quickly between the pair, anyway? After their glitzy, $10 million Aug. 20 wedding and super-luxe honeymoon in Italy, the newlyweds faced a harsh new reality. "She was like, 'Now what?'" a Kardashian insider tells Us. "They didn't know each other." And, in the aftermath, thanks to Kardashian's iron-clad prenup, "Anything earned during the marriage, she keeps," another source tells Us. "Kris does not receive any of Kim's money." Except for one thing: A cut of the hefty profits from their E! wedding special. "Kim and Kris got 30 percent of the revenue from every commercial that aired," another source says. "The wedding special aired in about 50 countries -- they made out like bandits!"

Investigators probing popular dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and members of his empire for a string of alleged murders say they have video evidence of the artiste and other men killing a man at a house in Havendale, St. Andrew. The disclosure was made on Thursday morning when Vybz Kartel and three members of his empire network appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court. The other accused are dancehall artiste Shawn Campbell otherwise called Shawn Storm; fashion designer Calvin Haye otherwise called Moonie and Kiera Jones. The men are charged for the August 16 murder of Clive Williams otherwise called 'Lizard'. Government prosecutors reported that Mr. Williams was taken to a house in Havendale on August 16 where he was beaten and stabbed to death over a missing gun. Mr. Haye's attorney complained that he has not seen any statement linking his client to the case. However, this was dismissed by the investigator who disclosed that they are putting together telephone evidence linking him to the crime. In a surprise disclosure, the investigator told senior magistrate Judith Pusey that the police have video evidence and witness statements connecting the men to the murder. It was alleged that the killing of the young man was captured on a phone which was later seized by the police.

The divine essence

GUIDANCE

I rest in the awareness of God, and I am guided in right ways. If I am facing a crossroads in my life, or an important decision, or if I simply want a greater sense of divine direction, I affirm the invocation as taught by Jesus, "Your will be done." This simple affirmation helps me turn within and reaffirm my faith in God. It allows me to release my fears and invite divine direction. My task is to get myself--including any negative thoughts, fears or concerns--out of the way and allow the presence of God to guide me. When I trust in the Presence within me and follow its lead, I am blessed in countless ways. I have confidence that the path I am following is leading me to opportunities for peace, joy and freedom. What a blessing it is to relax and trust in God. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.--Matthew 6:10

With the closure of the Mas Camp on Oxford Road scheduled to take place in another two weeks, several staple events will have to find new homes. There has been talk of closure from as far back as 2006, but year after the year the New Kingston venue remained open. It has, however, been reported that the venue owned by the Butch Stewart-owned ATL group will soon make way for a new hotel. A report carried in The Star stated that Gyete Ghartey, promoter of Mello Vibes and Yesterday, said he got the daunting call in October. "Going forward we have to find another venue, a venue that is accessible. Mas Camp had everything. It was quite central, you had parking and it wasn't so much in a residential area," he told THE STAR. With Mello Vibes being held at Mas Camp for the final time on the weekend, Ghartey said it will be a difficult task to find another venue that has similar characteristics. Nonetheless, he said the next staging of Yesterday will be on November 19 at Sugarman's Beach in Portmore. After that event, Ghartey said, it will be hard to find a venue for the December staging. Daunting for Ghartey, but Michael Ammar Jr, organiser of Bacchanal Jamaica, said his group has been preparing since becoming aware of the closure early this year. "From the last carnival we knew it was closing. It won't affect us, we will have a new 'Mas Camp'," he said. Ammar said they are well advanced with their plans for a new venue, but as for the details, he was tight-lipped. This new location, he said, might even improve the event. As for other events that were staged at Mas Camp, Ammar said "it's going to affect a lot of the independent operators that rent Mas Camp." Therefore, "we are trying to choose a venue that will be suitable for use by other people," he said, noting that one more event will he held at Mas Camp before it closes. Ghartey and Ammar are not alone with their views, as Jerome Hamilton a representative of Heineken Good Times, shares similar sentiments. "I think it is going to hurt Good Times as well as other events that were held there. It is going to create a void and I am not sure how we are going to fill that. It's a big blow to the industry," he told THE STAR, describing Mas Camp as a convenient location.

With a tour scheduled to start this weekend, dancehall artiste Elephant Man is appealing for the return of documents that were stolen from his vehicle on Monday night. The artiste said he was at an event in New Kingston on Monday night and his vehicle was in a parking lot nearby. Upon returning to the Toyota Corolla and when he was about to drive off, he realised that one of the rear windows was broken and his two bags missing. "Mi passport, mi documents, mi just get a copy of the brand new video for Survivor and a today it did fi come pon RE TV. The studio stuff, mi hard drive, laptop, mi need the whole a dem back. It's a Gucci bag and a black travel pack," he told the Star yesterday. "Mi nah diss nobody, mi nah do nobody nutten, mi just need back mi bag dem. Dem fi stop walk and bruck people car. Mi just want back mi bag and mi documents. " However, Elephant Man also had another question. "How security deh deh and my things gone?" he asked. Although upset, Elephant Man said incidents of this nature are not new. He said friend DJ Niceness was recently a victim as his car was stolen after an event, and that same night another friend also lost his car to thieves. "This thing ya gone too far now, dem fi stop walk and disrespect people. These guys weh a walk and a bruck people car a get outta hand. Nobody nuh waan drive go out, dem a tek taxi," he said. Most important, Elephant Man said he needs the documents returned as he has already collected money for the upcoming shows in Europe, Africa and Haiti. "Mi fi go pon tour weekend and mi need back mi stuff dem. I am going Europe and Africa for three weeks and then I am going to Haiti. I already take the promoters' money so I need back mi stuff. If dem can just drop it off at any Alliance corner, throw it over the fence, whatever. Nobody inna Jamaica nuh fava mi, so you can't travel on my stuff," Elephant Man reportedly told THE STAR.

THE RECENTLY published National Geographic: Food Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 Extraordinary Places to Eat Around the Globe has listed Devon House as the fourth-best place in the world to eat ice cream. The book noted the following: "Devon House is a masterpiece of Caribbean Victorian architecture and home to the island's most celebrated ice-cream stand. "The 27 flavours run a broad gamut, from traditional cherry and pistachio to exotic island treats like mango, coconut, and soursop. There is even an offbeat, beer-based ice cream called Devon Stout. Will Smith

Queen Latifah

It looks like Steve Harvey is not the only person going after the coveted daytime talk arena since Oprah Winfrey has left. Word has it that Queen Latifah has set up a new daytime talk show and has partnered with Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment company and plans on launching her own talk show! Here is the article from Deadline: With a slew of daytime syndicated talk show projects jockeying for a fall 2012 berth, a big one is entering the fray for fall 2013. Queen Latifah is set to host a new daytime talk show that Flavor Unit, her company with Shakim Compere, will co-produce with Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Compere and Overbrook's Miguel Melendez, who were instrumental in getting the project together, will serve as executive producers with Queen Latifah and Overbrook's Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Queen Latifah and Smith have a lot in common - both started in hip-hop before segueing into acting and then producing and both have earned Oscar nominations. In fact, Latifah's first role was an arc on NBC's The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, which starred Smith, also in his first acting gig. movie Set It Off. "We are excited to join forces with Latifah and as well as Sony Pictures TV on this new venture," Melendez said. "This forum is the perfect place to showcase Latifah's tremendous range of talents and unique ability to connect and inspire people." Sony TV's relationship with Pinkett Smith and Overbrook stems from their recent collaboration on the TNT series Hawthorne, which starred Pinkett Smith and was produced by Sony and Overbrook. Additionally, Overbrook has had a long relationship with Sony on the film side, most recently producing together the hit Karate Kid remake. Queen Latifah first hosted a syndicated daytime talk show a decade ago: The Telepictures-produced Queen Latifah Show launched in 1999 and ran for two seasons.

PROMISE
Today holds great promise.

Each day holds great promise and endless possibilities. Perhaps I'll make a new friend or be inspired to write a poem or create a work of art. Maybe a prayer will be answered, harmony and peace will come to a troubled relationship, or an insight will become clear to me today.

When I open to the surprises and delights of each new day, I let go of limited or rigid expectations. If something doesn't turn out exactly as I planned, I open to what is. God is present in me, and all is well.

I am present to life as it unfolds. I trust in God and appreciate both the small and large blessings that each day holds. I eagerly await life's surprises.

O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you. --Psalm 84:12

JOURNEY
I celebrate the journey of my life. Life is a journey that continuously takes me from comfortable and familiar territory to the new and unexplored. At times in my life I may change jobs, build a family, move to a different home or city, travel around the world. Venturing into the unknown can feel frightening. I choose to embrace the adventure of exploring new possibilities. With every change and challenge, God is with me. I may not be able to see around each bend--but I know I will be led to the right destination. I have the wisdom and understanding to navigate any speed bumps, detours or obstacles. I celebrate the wide-open grandeur of life as I travel with the Divine on my spectacular life journey. When our days there were ended, we left and proceeded on our journey.--Acts 21:5

DEEPENING
I put spiritual principles to work in my life. My life is enriched through my practice of spiritual principles.

'Twill be a busy Christmas for reggae singer, Colin Levy, as he takes time out of the recording studio to perform for fans. Although Levy is "very driven" and totally focused on getting out his album, Unleashed, while putting the finishing touches on his autobiographical novel, he says there are a few shows in Jamaica that he simply must attend. Among them are the Jagra GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza to be held in Independence Park in St Elizabeth on December 25; Yard Fest Family Fun Day, a Unite The People-endorsed event the night before and an annual show in Negril on New Year's Eve. The singer, whose single Lovers Holiday took up residence at the top of the Richie B Jamaica Countdown Chart earlier this year, says there's nothing better than Christmas in Jamaica. "It's an annual ritual for me and this year it will be no different," Colin Levy aka Iley Dred declared. With his album just about ready to be released, Levy says he has quite a few new songs which he is confident will connect with his fans. As the great Christian mystic Meister Eckhart once said, "If the only prayer you ever say is 'thank you,' that would suffice." Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!--2 Corinthians 9:15

FAITH

US authorities find major drug tunnel in San Diego

Webmin
