New Leader To Be Selected On Nov 19

Just under 5,000 delegates will elect the new leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) when the party stages the voting session of its annual conference on November 19 at the National Arena.
The candidates to replace Prime Minister Bruce Golding as party leader will be known by midnight on October 20 when nominations close.
JLP Chairman Mike Henry had originally announced that nominations would close on October 21 but this was corrected yesterday by the party's general secretary, Aundré Franklin, during a media briefing called to provide details on how the new leader would be chosen.
According to Franklin, the Electoral Office of Jamaica has been contracted to conduct the voting exercise and the country should know Golding's replacement before 6 p.m. on election day.
"We intend to start at 9:30 a.m. Voting is scheduled to commence at 11:30 a.m. and to be completed by 4:30 p.m. Between the hours of 4:30 and 5:30, we expect to have the results for a new leader of the Jamaica Labour Party."
Most of the nearly 5,000 delegates will come from the 63 constituencies islandwide with the JLP affiliates also providing delegates.
At least 500 delegates will have to be registered at the National Arena for the election to take place.

Tax reduction coming says Audley Shaw

Finance Minister, Audley Shaw, has promised reduced tax rates for Jamaicans as he pledged to use forensic science to ferret out tax evaders.
At a customs seminar Thursday, Shaw said a recent study by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has shown that if the government was able to collect all the money lost through tax evasion, the country would not have a fiscal deficit.
He said that the findings of the IMF mission, which was handed over to him by the technical team, has confirmed his suspicion of the level of tax evasion in Jamaica.
Shaw has promised to make the findings of the report public, but he did not give a date for releasing the information.

PM to address the nation on Sunday

Daryl Vaz, the Minister with responsibility for Information, says Prime Minister Bruce Golding will be addressing a range of issues in his national broadcast to the nation at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2.
"We can look forward to the Prime Minister addressing the nation on Sunday (when) he will speak about the issue of the transition and the critical issues facing the country that we're all aware of," Mr. Vaz said.
The Information Minister also disclosed that the Prime Minister has been receiving commendations from international partners for his leadership over the four years.
"The Prime Minister has received a number of personal calls to him from high ranking members of governments around the world and also financial and multilateral institutions commending him on the way that he has operated and handled the government's affairs in his four years and looks forward to continued good close working relationships with the Government of Jamaica," Mr. Vaz stated.

JLP says full list of candidates will soon be in place

The Jamaica Labour Party says its full slate of candidates for Parliamentary and Local Government Elections will be in place in a matter of weeks.
The Party says two constituencies are still without confirmed candidates while two others are under review.
However, General Secretary, Aundre Franklin, says before the end of  next month all constituencies and divisions will have candidates.
 "The reviews should be tied up in a matter of a week or two and we expect to fill those two outstanding vacancies eventually. So we are  very much ready both at the national level and divisional level" he said.
And Senator Franklin says the Electoral Office of Jamaica will manage the JLP's internal elections.
"The Jamaica Labour Party contacted the Electoral Office of Jamaica and they have consented to be in charge of the voting exercise that is scheduled to take place at our all island general council that is scheduled for November 19, 2011" said the General Secretary.
Voting for positions in the Party's officer corps will take place on Saturday November 19 during the private session of the two day annual conference slated for the National Arena.

Police searching for suspect who stabbed school doctor

The police in Clarendon have extended their search for another suspect in connection with the stabbing and robbery at a doctor's office in Frankfield, Clarendon earlier this month.
The doctor is attached to the Edwin Allen High School.
Senior Superintendent Dayton Henry, the Divisional Commander for Clarendon, told RJR News that the suspect is a male.
However, he said his identity cannot be released, due to the new police policy governing persons of interest
Superintendent Henry further disclosed that a domestic helper has been charged in connection with the incident.
She is 31-year-old Ruthlyn Simpson of Frankfield, who has been charged with robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Miss Simpson, who was employed by the doctor, was offered $80,000 bail when she appeared in the Chapelton Resident Magistrate's Court, last Wednesday.                   
She is scheduled to return to court on December 8.

Assault case against Mavado put off to February

Dancehall artiste Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, faced the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court in St. James on Thursday but is to return on February 6 and 7 next year.
The 30-year-old artiste is accused of assault occasioning bodily harm, and malicious destruction of property.
The charges are in connection with an incident in which he is accused of assaulting a man and damaging his Toyota Camry motorcar, after an argument along the Belmont main road in St. James.
It was reported that the complainant stopped along the road to allow a line of traffic to pass, when he and his son were attacked by the artiste and members of his entourage. 
The complainant sustained injuries to his back, leg, and forehead.

Vybz Kartel arrested

Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, whose given name is Adijah Palmer was arrested on Friday morning at a new Kingston hotel.
Police sources say Kartel was arrested with a woman and both were charged with illegal possession of ganja.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Ealan Powell, Kartel's arrest is part of a larger police investigation..
Sources say the investigation could result in murder charges being laid against persons close to the entertainer.

A strong contingent of police personnel and soldiers are now searching a Norbrook house, believed to be owned by popular entertainer, Vybz Kartel. 
Police Inspector Steve Brown says  that their investigations led them to the house in Norbrook, St. Andrew. 

The police detained the entertainer, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, during a Flying Squad operation last night.

T.I. is re-writing the book when it comes to welcome home parties -- because the recently-released rapper isn't throwing himself a nightclub bash ... he's having a brunch in Atlanta!
But don't expect tea and crumpets -- we're told good pal Diddy is personally shipping in 150 bottles of Ciroc, one for each person in attendance. We're told the whole bash will cost around $100K, with $20K just on food and additional $8K on dessert.
The big surprise of the night -- reps from AKOO Clothing, T.I.'s clothing line, will measure the VIP guests for custom-made clothing gifts.
It's set to go down on October 2, two days after T.I. gets released from the halfway house.

Fashion Consultant Sues Lauryn Hill

A fashion consultant who fitted Lauryn Hill with clothes for her European tour back in 2007 is suing the singer, claiming Lauryn jacked her threads, TMZ is claiming. 
According to a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Via Davia Vintage provided Hill "with an entire wardrobe of high fashion items." The company claims Hill agreed to pay a fixed weekly fee for 4 weeks.
But according to the lawsuit, Hill hung on to the clothes for three months, paying only a fraction of what she owed.. And to top it off ... the consultant claims Hill only returned about 30% of the items, keeping the expensive stuff.
This is the second time in the last two months Hill has been sued because of her 2007 European Tour. Last month, a guitar player sued her for $20,000 ... claiming she stiffed him.
Calls to Hill's agent were not returned.

PNP calls for general election

Following Sunday's announcement from Prime Minister Bruce Golding of his intention to step down, the opposition People's National Party (PNP)  has called on Mr. Golding to call a general election in an effort to resolve the crisis of governance in the country .
Officials from the Opposition party who are locked in a  meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC), meeting at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, passed the following resolution.
"Whereas the country has been informed by the media that the Prime Minister is stepping down.
And whereas, this reflects negatively on the stability of the country given the circumstances that have compelled this decision.
And whereas this decision by Mr. Golding will not restore the country's stability nor salvage the reputation of the JLP with respect to the poor quality of governance
Be it resolved, that this NEC calls upon the government to immediately resign and call the general elections so as to resolve the crisis of governance in Jamaica."
On Sunday, by way of a release  Mr. Golding announced that he will not be seeking re-election at the party's annual general conference in November.
The release quotes the Prime Minister as saying  that: "the challenges of the last four years have taken their toll and it was appropriate now to make way for new leadership to continue the programmes of economic recovery and transformation while mobilizing the party for victory in the next general elections."

Higgler shot and killed Sunday morning

Forty-seven-year-old Pauline Morston, a higgler of Penwood Road in Kingston, was shot dead Sunday morning in Unity Lane also in Kingston.
The Hunts Bay Police report that about 9:25 a.m., Miss. Morston was at her stall along the road when she was approached by a hoodlum, who shot her several times.
She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. 
 



JLP members in shock - Holness

Despite being viewed as a top contender to replace Prime Minister Golding as Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Andrew Holness says it is too early to speak about the future leadership of the party.
According to Mr. Holness, there are processes for the JLP to decide on the way forward.
He disclosed that the JLP is still absorbing Mr. Golding's announcement not to seek re-election as Party Leader and to step down as Prime Minister.
"I think most persons are in shock by the announcement ... there is a process that the party will have to go through to ensure that it remains strong, that the delegates are informed about what has happened and that they understand what it means. It's very important to keep the delegates and the party support and to find mechanisms for their impressions to be heard," Mr. Holness said.
He added that the public will be kept in the loop on developments in the JLP.
"It is also important for the party to communicate with the public so that there's no uncertainty during this period of time. It is going to be a very involved process of managing a transition, if a transition is to occur," Mr. Holness stated.

The resignation of Bruce Golding as leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), and Prime Minister is expected to feature highly at today's meeting of the party's officer corp.
Minister with responsibility for information, Daryl Vaz, said the officer core has requested to meet with Golding to discuss the development.
In a statement yesterday, Golding said the challenges of the last four years have taken a toll on him and it is now appropriate to make way for new leadership.
Hours later, the JLP's Central Executive unanimously rejected the resignation for the second time in just over a year.
However, Daryl Vaz said while Golding is open to dialogue, he is maintaining that his decision to step down is final.
According to him, Golding's decision to step down is one that has been under consideration for sometime now.
Vaz described Golding as a good leader who will be sadly missed.

Buju to serve jail time in Texas

According to examiner.com, a website that has consistently followed the artiste and his legal battle, announced yesterday that Banton will officially serve his time at a prison in Texas.
The site explained that Banton, who had been listed in transit on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, "will begin serving his 10 year sentence at the Limestone County Correctional Institution in Groesbeck, Texas."
Banton was apparently flown to the Federal Holding Centre in the neighbouring state of Oklahoma last month.
Initially, it was thought that Buju would be moved to a correctional facility in Mississippi. The change is said to have come because one of Buju's co-defendants was already serving time in Mississippi, prompting a move to the medium-security prison instead.
Buju is expected to serve the remainder of his time, which was recently announced as ending on February 1, 2019 at the Limestone County Correctional Institution.
In February Buju was sentenced to 10 years in prison following convictions on three drug-related charges, which were handed down after a sting operation conducted in Miami, Florida in December 2009.

"A Bruce wi seh. Wi want Bruce," were some of the words that echoed from a few of the many high-rise buildings as residents waved their curtains to make their loyalty to their constituency representative known.
"From mi hear di news, mi turn off di fire underneath mi rice and peas. Mi knees dem weak. Mi cyaa believe," stated Euleene Morgan.
"Mi start t'ink all kind a t'ings. Bruce do nuff fi wi, but most people jus waan crucify him. Jus like how (Edward) Seaga step down and gave us di reason, wi need him fi come and tell wi why," she said.
Morgan, when asked which member of the party Tivoli Gardens would endorse as Golding's replacement, said, "Mi nuh know about anybody else, but anybody inna the JLP have mi backings. Mi love mi party, me nuh business a who."
"Them crucify Christ and him never do anything, him bear it," stated one 74-year-old resident of the community. "Mi stand up behind him all the way, mi nah give him up for nobody," she said.
A few chains down the road, the reaction from at least one resident was far different.
"A long time him fi lef'. Him bring Babylon (police) down here fi kill off him own people. Him fi go weh," one man inside the community stated.
Hours after Prime Minister Bruce Golding delivered the political bombshell that he will not be seeking re-election as head of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) at its annual conference in November, the big question on the lips of many residents in the JLP stronghold of Tivoli Gardens was, why?
"We want him to write to us and tell us, in at least 200 words, why him a step down. We nah accept this! No sah!" said one young man who spoke to The Gleaner yesterday.

Bruce Golding not seeking re-election

JLP Leader Bruce Golding will not seek re-election at the party's annual general conference in November, and will step down as prime minister as soon as a new leader has been elected. 

According to a statement from Daryl Vaz, minister with responsibility forinformation, Golding conveyed this decision to the party's central executive at its quarterly meeting, held at the Belmont Road headquarters today. 

Golding had said he had planned to lead the party into a second term of government and demit office within two years thereafter. 

"The challenges of the last four years have taken their toll and it was appropriate now to make way for new leadership to continue the programmes of economic recovery and transformation while mobilizing the party for victory in the next general elections," the prime minister said.

Kingston, Jamaica - September 20, 2011: Today,  LIME and the producers of Teacha's Pet shared details on the highly anticipated  reality TV series featuring popular dancehall entertainer, Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer,  in a never-before- seen format for local television.

Scheduled to start airing on CVM TV and on Peppa, carried on LIME Mobile TV on September 23, Teacha's Pet surrounds the love life and career of Vybz Kartel and was shot on location at an upper St. Andrew residence. During the briefing LIME revealed that fans of the show will have the chance to watch deleted scenes on Peppa - an entertainment channel distributed on its mobile TV network.

"After every show, fans who want more can tune in to the entertainment channel Peppa, for a 20-minute after show featuring all the "too hot for TV" moments - a first in Jamaica," highlighted  Tara Playfair-Scott, LIME Head of Television & Entertainment.

Produced by Carleene Samuels and directed by Jason 'Jay Will' Williams of Creative Source Productions, the programme features a cast of 20 female contestants who live together and complete daily challenges as they try to win the love of Vybz Kartel.  


According to Samuels, Teacha's Pet is unlike any other programme produced locally. "Generally persons tend to be skeptical about Jamaican reality series, however we are positive that this top quality production will attract high viewership particularly among the artistes' huge fan base across the globe."


Commenting on the show, Palmer said: "This is another milestone and pillar of success in my career." "I have always had an interest in pursuing film based projects along with my music. I am very pleased with the production and I look forward to the response of my fans and the viewers who will tune in every Friday night".

TRANSITION
I continue to evolve in spiritual understanding.

Nature shows us that we die to the old and are reborn in the new. We see leaves turning color each autumn, dropping from tree branches, followed by new growth each springtime. Just as in nature, we must let go of what was in order to grow anew.

I am always in a state of becoming. I embrace change as it allows me to become all I am meant to be. As I move through transitions and evolve in spiritual understanding, I release the past and welcome the fullness of the glorious present, in whatever form it takes.

WORLD PEACE
Today I speak only words of peace.

Words are powerful tools for building a world of peace. A good carpenter maintains his tools and chooses his materials with care. As I seek to contribute to a world of peace, I maintain inner peace and choose my words with care.

If my thoughts have become as troubled as the challenging conditions around me, I pause and take a gentle breath. In that moment, I align my thoughts with Jesus' teachings. I let Spirit guide me in choosing words that call forth the potential peace waiting to unfold in each situation. Casting aside thoughts and words of anger, hurt or revenge, I allow my words to honor the Divine in each of us as together we create a world of peace.

LA Lewis wanted by the police

A warrant is now out for the arrest of deejay L.A Lewis after he failed to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court yesterday to answer to charges of littering.
The dancehall graffiti artist, whose real name is Horace Lewis, was fined for breaches of the National Solid Waste Act. The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) had slapped the deejay with a $70,000 fine after they alleged that he defaced public spaces.
In a previous interview with THE STAR, the deejay had said that he will not be paying for the wrongdoing of others and that he intends to consult his attorney.
"All I know is that when I heard the rumour, I went by the NSWMA office, and an officer told me that they are charging me for my name being around the Corporate Area," he said.
The deejay had further claimed: "They showed me seven signs, the signs read '2012, Vote L.A Lewis for PNP Member of Parliament'. I was frightened when I found out that they were going to charge me because I don't know anything about these signs, the only thing I can do is to appeal to my fans to stop doing it."
The deejay in further pleading his case had said, "There is no constitutional law to back what they are doing because they can't charge me for the actions of other people. My name is graffiti in Negril and overseas. I don't have no time for these things because I am focusing on my recording and marketing company."
A prior release from the NSWMA had stated that Lewis had defaced seven locations. It further stated that these acts of public defacement by Lewis and his cronies show a blatant disregard for the law.
The NSWMA said Lewis, who refused to accept the tickets, had 21 days to pay the fines, or appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Lewis was also issued with removal notices for the seven areas that were recently defaced. The agency said failure to comply with the removal notices within 14 days would see Lewis facing fines of up to $700,000.

A driver employed to the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) was shot dead in what residents say is a recent flare-up of gang violence on Grants Pen Road, Kingston 8.
He has been identified as 64-year-old Bradley Morgan of 10 Fagan Avenue, off Grants Pen Road, Kingston 10.
Mr. Morgan's wife, who was at home at the time of the gun attack, narrowly escaped death, after a bullet grazed her head.
There were earlier reports that Mrs. Morgan was a victim in the early morning attack.
It's understood, however, that she somehow managed to flee her attackers.
According to reports, about three o'clock, this morning, several explosions were heard coming from the direction of a house on Fagan Avenue.
Frightened neighbours woke to the news that Mr. Morgan had been killed, and his wife shot and injured.
Well-placed sources reveal that this morning's shooting could be linked to a recent incident, about a month ago, in which a man aligned to a rival gang in the community was shot and injured.
Residents also pointed to another shooting they claim is linked to a turf war in Fagan Avenue and nearby Lady Huggins Avenue.
In  that incident, persons making purchases at the popular bend-down market at Shortwood and Grants Pen Road, had to flee when armed men opened fire at a group of bystanders.
A 60-year-old man sustained a graze.
The Constabulary Communication Network CCN confirmed the shooting.
However, up to news time no additional information had been released.

2019 release date for Buju Banton

International reggae super star Buju Banton will have to wait until the final year of this decade to become a free again after the United States Bureau of Prisons confirmed that his official release date has been set for February 2019.
The official release date quells rumors that have swirled that Buju would originally serve 6 years; counting time already served and good behavior.
However, the Bureau's official release date set for February 2019 includes the time the prominent Reggae entertainer served in prison prior to and between his two trials within the last year.
Buju, whose given name is Mark Myrie, was convicted on three drug related charges in February as a result of a December 2009 incident in which he allegedly conspired to organize a drug deal within a police controlled warehouse.

Dudus Begs For Mercy In A Letter To NY Judge

Confessed Jamaican drug lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke has written a letter to a New York judge asking for leniency, a report in the New York Times says.
Coke is facing a maximum 23 years behind bars following a guilty plea in the United States Southern District Court of New York on July 31.
The 42-year-old pleaded guilty before US District judge Robert P. Patterson.
In the report, Coke is said to have mailed a seven-page long letter which was neatly handwritten to Patterson.
The letter was mailed on September 7.
 "Good day to you, sir," the letter to the judge began. "I am humbly asking if you could be lenient on me," the report says.
Coke addressed the judge as 'Justice Paterson'. Coke reportedly accepted responsibility for his actions, but did not apologise.
Coke asked that the judge use his "discretion" to sentence him "below the guideline range."
Coke, who is still revered in sections of West Kingston gave 13 reasons for leniency.
Among them are the loss of his mother recently and his 8-year-old son being traumatised by his arrest.
 "I was told that while she was on her deathbed, she was crying and kept calling my name," Coke said of his mother.
In regards to his son, Coke wrote "I was told that he is constantly asking for his daddy."
In the report Coke also complained that because he would be deported after serving his sentence, he would leave the country "without the possibility of ever visiting" his brother or other relatives who he said lived here.
In the letter, Coke described "charitable deeds and social services" that he carried out in West Kingston. These services he said benefitted the elderly, the unemployed and parents. He also mentioned a 'back to school' treat which he held for children in West Kingston.
Coke also said he organised a parents committee which ensured that children and teenagers were off the streets by 8 p.m Sunday through Thursday.
In the report it said that at least a resident, Maxine Riley, from West Kingston has written to Patterson asking for him to give Dudus a life sentence.
 "I hope that you exercise your judicial discretion to put him away forever," she wrote. "Mr. Coke is the Hitler of the Caribbean; this is an opportunity for him and his murderous organization to be permanently dismantled," she wrote.
Riley said that Coke was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Jamaicans, including her own son, Dexter, who was killed by Dudus' gunmen when he was 16.
Coke, who was extradited to the US on June 24, 2010 to answer narco and firearm charges, will be sentenced on December 8 around 4 p.m.

Gyptian questioned and released

Dancehall artiste Gyptian was yesterday questioned by the police in relation to a shooting incident at a recording studio a week ago.
The artiste was accompanied by his lawyer Peter Champagnie when he turned himself in to the police, who conducted a question and answer session.
Gyptian was later released.
The police said 27-year-old Davion Bailey otherwise called 'Burro' was gunned down at the recording studio by unknown assailants.
It is reported that the shooting followed an altercation at the studio between its producer and persons connected to Gyptian.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from the producer's attempt to get the artiste to record a song.
Gyptian's refusal to do so is said to have fuelled the conflict.

Colin Levy makes TIFF debut at Donisha Prendergast's film premier

It was his first official performance at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and reggae singer, Colin Levy, aka Iley Dred, delighted his audience.
Levy was performing on September 10 at the premier of the film starring Donisha Prendergast, at which her mom, Sharon Marley was present to lend her full support. The documentary, RasTa: A Soul's Journey, which was very well received, sees Donisha - the grand-daughter of reggae icon, Bob Marley - on a journey to explore what 'Rasta' mean to persons in various cultures.
Quite appropriately, Levy selected a Stephen Marley-produced single as part of his four-song performance. The single, Forever Praising Jah, is one of the singles produced by the Grammy winner and son of the reggae legend, for Levy's soon-to-be-released album, Unleashed. Stephen experiments with his father's Time Will Tell riddim for this track and if the response from the audience is anything to go by, then Colin Levy should definitely release this song as a single.
Levy, in an interview after the premier, was fulsome in his praise of Donisha, whom he described as "a talented and spiritual young Rastafarian Empress".
"I am honoured to be here," Levy said. "Not only to perform but also to be among the first persons to watch this film, which is very inspirational for me as a Rastafarian. And I am so proud of Donisha who is using her talent in such a meaningful and positive way. We as elders have to inspire and teach the youth and I salute her," Levy stated.
The Toronto Film Festival takes place September 8 to 18 in Toronto, Canada.

Controversy surrounding tax on energy drinks deepens

The controversy surrounding the proposed tax on energy drinks has deepened, as one major company may be seeking to recover monies it paid over to the Government.
Managing Director of Wisynco, William Mahfood, says since the announcement of the tax last year, the company had been paying over funds to the Government, even after the suspension of the programme, which arose from issues surrounding the definition of "energy drink".
On Beyond The Headlines on Thursday, Mr. Mahfood expressed shock at Wednesday's Post-Cabinet announcement that the Government intended to reintroduce the tax.
He claims that the company may be owed over a hundred million dollars, which it intends to recover.
 "All of the tax that the Government has collected since December of last year under now, they will have to reimburse us for all of that tax. They have been collecting tax on the imports, so the fact that they have made the statement that the tax is only now going to be applied, I would like to ask them to reimburse us"
Meanwhile, Mr. Mahfood believes other entities may mount legal challenges, if the Government targets their products based on the revised definition of energy drink.      
Information Minister, Daryl Vaz, announced that the modified definition of energy drinks incorporates beverages whose ingredients include herbs, amino acids, and even caffeine.
Mr. Mahfood thinks that if certain products are singled out by the government for taxation, this may be subject to challenge.
 "If I made a product that I put in there caffeine but I don't call it an energy drink is it supposed to be taxed? If it is not taxing specific ingredients then it cannot tax certain named products because it would be considered discriminatory and would therefore be illegal" said Mr. Mahfood.
And, the Opposition People's National Party says it's strongly opposed to the method the Government has used to implement taxes on caffeinated beverages.
Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Dr.Peter Phillips said the way the tax has been imposed highlights a continuing pattern of mismanagement of the taxation process and the financial affairs of the country.
While not questioning the need for the tax measures, Dr Phillips said he's questioning how they are imposed.
 ''This tax was announced during the budget, it was removed after protest and now one week after there was a debate on the Supplementary Budget in which the minister said nothing at all, there is a report carried by the Minister of Information that this tax is going to be imposed.....it is certainly not reflective of any good system of management

Police on high alert for PNP conference

The Police High Command says the law will be fully enforced for this weekend's annual conference of the People's National Party, PNP.
The police say delegates and supporters who will be attending the  annual conference will not be allowed to take into the venues firearms, knives, drugs, ice picks, machetes, umbrellas, glass bottles or any other items that can be used to cause serious harm or injury.  
 The conference will be held at  various venues across the corporate area starting Friday, September 16, and culminating in the public session Sunday, September 18 at the National Arena.
Delegates and supporters are further advised that all persons entering the venues will be subject to search.  
The police have warned that that no vending will be allowed outside of the designated areas  and that no provision will be made for the storage of prohibited or restricted items at any of the venues.
 Motorists have been advised that  all provisions of the Road Traffic Act will be strictly enforced.They are also warned not to allow passengers to hang from the doors of motor buses, sit on top of motor vehicles, or have any part of the body protruding from the motor vehicles.
 The police are also imploring drivers to obey the speed limit, and to desist from dangerous and careless driving on the nation's roads this weekend.

Denroy Morgan, Reggae Singer, Arrested With 25 Pounds of Pot in Car

Detectives recovered more than 300 pounds of marijuana Wednesday afternoon in the Bronx.
Jamaican reggae veteran Denroy Morgan was arrested on Wednesday after blowing through a stop sign in the Bronx, New York. But his traffic violation -- he also wasn't wearing a seat belt -- was only the tip of the iceberg, according to police reports.
After police pulled him over, the smell of marijuana in the car led nearby narcotics investigators -- in the area on an unrelated matter -- to drop by. After some questioning, Morgan admitted he had marijuana in the trunk. Two bags weighing 25 pounds were discovered and the singer, the first Reggae artist signed to RCA Records, was arrested and charged with possession and driving without a seat belt.
According to the Daily News, Morgan showed up at the arraignment wearing a "blue camouflage outfit with a white porkpie hat." He was being held in lieu of $8,000 bail and its unclear if he remains behind bars.
Morgan's career peaked in the mid-1980s with reggae-disco hits like "I'll Do Anything for You" and his RCA album, "Make My Day." His latest album, "Link Up to Ethiopia," was released July 14, according to his website.
Morgan's arrest actually set in motion a much larger pot bust in the Bronx.
Investigators who had allegedly seen the singer leave a house with the bags returned to the location, where they arrested a man named Wayne Swavy (officially, for not wearing his seat belt). He had 16 pounds in his car. After obtaining a search warrant, an investigation of the house turned up an enormous 310-pound stack of marijuana bricks, estimated to have been worth between $140,000 to $350,000, depending on its potency.

Chicken price goes up again

The Jamaica Broilers Group says it may not be able to hold the price of chicken for much longer, given increases in the price of corn.
Corn prices have risen more than 76 percent in the last year, and Jamaica Broilers, in its latest financial result, has indicated that it has had to absorb most of that increase.
The act saw the company reporting a 42 percent dip in profits for the three months - May to July - to 128 million dollars, and the company says it just can't go on holding the price.
Mr Levy says the decision is a very difficult one, but one which the company has to face up to.
 "We are not sure of an amount yet , but without a doubt it will have to take place sometime next week" said  Mr.  Levy.

At V magazine's party at the Boom Boom room, last night. Is Lindsay Lohan responsible for this hawt mess?
Rumors are starting to fly that wild child Lindsay Lohan may be responsible for putting an abrupt end to V magazine's bash at the Standard Hotel's Boom Boom room last night after an altercation with a fellow reveler turned very ugly. Apparently Lindsay Lohan was seen earlier that evening throwing drinks at one V mag photographer:
The photog  tweeted about the altercation, writing: "Wow. Lindsay Lohan is as trashy as they always say. She threw drinks and glasses to me as we tried to take a shot for @vmagazine."
According to one of our sources it turns out that more than throwing glasses at photographers was going on. Apparently one young female reveler had an artery on her arm erupt after a jagged glass hit her arm, courtesy of a belligerent Ms Lohan.
At this juncture no one quite knows if Lilo is to blame, but one thing's for sure the cops and emergency units came and had a very serious issue of a profusely bleeding guest. Judging from the pictures below, the cut looked fairly nasty (the carpet doesn't look sweet either does it?).
So we're left to wonder did America's collective hawt mess leave another nasty mark in her wake or is this just an opportunistic rumor flying around? Let's see Lilo's publicists explain this one....

Known for playing an invincible hero, his death is on some level more heartfelt and ironic given his on screen persona. But that perhaps is the pathos of being an entertainer, that the roles we excel in on the big screen are sometimes not the roles we can become as much as we will it in reality, but then again such things as cancer know no rhyme or reason, which is why Andy Whitfield's death is perhaps even more startling given the legacy and aura that he commanded on screen and of course off screen, and perhaps even more so now....

Increased security at maternity wards of two more hospitals

The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) says it has beefed up security measures for maternity wards at two of its hospitals and improved security systems at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) in Kingston.
The measures follow a recent incident at the VJH in which a mentally ill HIV positive woman was allowed to breastfeed another woman's infant.
Lyttleton Shirley, the Chairman of SERHA, says the new measures already implemented at the VJH will be duplicated in the maternity wards at the Spanish Hospital in St. Catherine and the Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas.
At the VJH the measures include double tagging of all babies.
The tags are to be placed on the right arm and left leg of the infant immediately after delivery and must be kept on the baby throughout his/her hospital stay.
The security officer placed outside the Neonatal Unit during the 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. period will continue to identify and screen all authorized visitors to the Nursery.  
A CCTV system with recording capabilities will also be installed to monitor the Neo- Natal Unit, Labour Ward, Ward 3 and all entrances and exits.
In addition to the present roving patrols done by the Security Supervisor after 7:00 p.m., SERHA says two additional security personnel have been placed temporarily at the Neo-Natal Unit and Ward 3 for two weeks on the 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift until the CCTV system has been installed.

Policewoman kills alleged robber

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating an incident in which a man was shot dead by a policewoman in Barbican, St Andrew on Wednesday, September 14.
It is reported that shortly after 3:00 p.m., the plainclothes policewoman was sitting in a car on the Barbican playing field, when she was held-up at knife point by a man, who robbed her of her cellular phone.
The policewoman reportedly came out of her car and demanded the return of the phone.
This led to a dispute between the two.
The man reportedly stabbed at the policewoman several times.
She then pulled her service pistol and fired shots, hitting him.
The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead

PNP dismisses reports of million dollar contracts to Christopher Coke's company

Opposition Spokesman on Finance Dr. Peter Phillips has dismissed suggestions that the former PNP administration channeled multi-million dollar contracts to a company that was operated by convicted narcotics and weapons smuggler, Christopher "Dudus" Coke.
The opposition party has been forced to fend off criticisms that it offered public works contracts worth millions of dollars to Incomparable Enterprises when it was in government.
"Any search of the Office of the Contractor General's data base will show that in the period prior to 2007, there was one contract from  (the) Central Government Agency and it was the National Works Agency  for bushing for 336 thousand dollars   in contrast there has been 200-million dollars in the period post 2007 of the JLP Government's administration being in place" he said.
And the Opposition Spokesman dismissed assertions that the investigations that led to the indictment of Coke started during the Golding administration.
"The indictment which was the basis for the extradition request resulted from investigative activities that started during the period of the JLP's incumbency - that is also not true.....the record is there to show it that these investigations date back to the 1990's and  certainly were the subject of close cooperation between the law enforcement authorities of Jamaica and the United States and other international agencies over that period" said Dr. Phillips.

Barons Plaza to be demolished

The Barons Plaza on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, which houses more than 37 stores, is to be demolished.
Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, says the owners of the building have committed several violations.
The Mayor, who made the announcement at a KSAC meeting, on Tuesday said the council exhausted all channels and there will be no more discussions with the owners of the plaza.
Meanwhile, the owner of Barons Plaza, Baron Stephens, said the only form of communication from the KSAC was a stop order. The order was served for the stoppage of work on a section of the structure.
 "There was no correspondence from the KSAC as it relates to  any other aspect of the structure.  So this comes as a surprise and if the court process was pursued, there is no documentation  our side and if the demolition order was granted there is no documents from our  side either" said Mr. Stephens.
The Mayor did not say when the demolition exercise will begin.

Man killed at Supa Hype studio

An altercation between a popular entertainer and a producer turned ugly Monday afternoon after one man was shot and killed.
According to CCN reports, Twenty-seven-year-old Davion Bailey otherwise called 'Burro' was gunned down at a recording studio on Dumbarton Avenue, Kingston 10 Monday evening, by unknown assailants.
Information received from the Half Way Tree CIB is that about 5:45 p.m., a group of men, armed with guns, entered the recording studio and opened fire hitting Bailey multiple times. The men escaped in a white Honda motor car. The police were called and Bailey taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations continue.

Usain Bolt Wins 100 Meters At Zagreb World Challenge With Season-Best Time

AGREB, Croatia -- Usain Bolt made a cautious start in his first 100 meters since his disqualification at the world championships, and still won in a season-best 9.85 seconds at the Zagreb World Challenge on Tuesday.
Bolt, who false-started in South Korea last month to end his hopes of retaining his world title, shaved 0.03 seconds off his previous fastest time this year - 9.88 at Monaco in June - on a warm, still night.
"It was a poor start," said Bolt, the world and Olympic record holder. "I kind of lost concentration and just went through the line. It was OK, I suppose, but I could have done better, especially with the weather like that."
Kim Collins of Saint Kitts and Nevis ran a season-best 10.01 seconds to finish second, ahead of Trinidad's Richard Thompson at 10.03.
There was standing room only at the 61st Boris Hanzekovic Memorial, where Real Madrid President Florentino Perez and club official Emilio Butragueno arrived in time to see Bolt run. Madrid begins its Champions League campaign at Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.
"It was wonderful, the crowd here," Bolt said. "I loved that they were excited and that the fans come up to me. I'm always grateful for that."
However, security had trouble controlling the crowd as "Boltmania" took hold when he celebrated with delirious fans.
"It's not as bad in Jamaica, where they see me every day," Bolt said, laughing.

Mavado's manager wanted by the police

Julian Jones-Griffiths, manage for dancehall star Mavado, is being sought by the police. However, Jones-Griffiths  has expressed surprise that the police have issued an appeal for information on his whereabouts.
"I am very surprised by this media release as the JCF know that I have been overseas on business and personal matters for some time," he said.
"My attorneys have spoken to them on several occasions so they have been fully aware of my location for a couple of weeks. I have already asked my attorneys to contact the police again to indicate when I will be returning to the island to deal with this matter."
Jones- Griffiths is the manager for dancehall entertainer Mavado.
Investigators from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) are seeking the public's assistance in locating Julian Jones Griffiths, the manager of Jamaican dancehall star David 'Mavado' Brooks.
Police say he is needed in a case that is before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.
In a release, the Constabulary Communications Network said Griffiths is accused of perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in an incident which occurred about 6:00 p.m. along Belmont Main Road, St. James on Friday, July 22.
The police say several attempts have been made to locate Griffiths, including visits to addresses listed for him.
In addition, persons have been interviewed in an attempt to find him.
The matter is currently before the court and one person has already been charged. The case is scheduled for Thursday, September 15.
Julian Jones Griffiths or anyone knowing his whereabouts is being asked to contact the ACB at 926-5855, 926-9579 or 926-9596.

The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant was founded in Washington, DC by Husband and Wife team, Ron and Deloris Dickerson.. Mostly Deloris, Ron helped out a little bit. The 1st show was held at Club 55 in the summer of 1993. It was an instant success. It has over the years become something of a cult classic with people coming to see the show from all over the world. Ok, back to the beginning.. The concept for the pageant was created as Ms. Deloris and Ron were watching a Miss America Pageant.  Already having been in the Gentlemen's Club business for well over 20 years, Ms. Deloris had a vision of emulating that show, but with a twist. She decided to create a production, very similar to that show but allowing the ladies to be a little more creative in their dance moves and closing the show with a giant BANG!! The last category of the pageant was going to be TOTALLY NUDE. How cool is that?

The 1st production of the show featured 15 young ladies of African American Decent showcasing their swimwear, Evening Gowns and Lingerie. The categories of Talent and Totally Nude rocked the overflow crowd out of its seats and a yearly show was born.

During the ensuing years, several high profile television shows featured The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant. The most popular of all was HBO. HBO actually filmed the show live in DC but also traveled with the show for many years to its other home, Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica.. Just a side bar about Hedonism II, It's the best damn place on earth. Sorry, back to my story. The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant has been featured at Hedonism II in Negril Jamaica for the past 17 years, only missing one year. It's always hosted by our trusted DJ & MC, "Mr. E" who also is one of the producers of the show. It is a staple for the last week of September. Visitors from all over The United States, Europe and Canada make their way to Hedo II the last week of September, every year to witness first hand, this fabulous show. 2011 will be no different, so if you know like we know, be wicked for a week along with the ladies of  Club 2046  and join us for a most exciting week of fun and delicious activities.

Charlie Sheen Gets His First Post-Meltdown Movie Role

Despite the fact that he went way off the deep end, I guess Charlie Sheen will work in this town again after all.
First, it was announced that Sheen landed his own sitcom, based on the movie Anger Management. But that wasn't just some lucky break, he's also been cast in his first movie role since his very public meltdown.
Variety reports that the actor will star in the indie film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III with Jason Schwartzman.
Does Charlie Sheen have trouble remembering his name or something? Because every character he plays is named Charlie. Is he worried that if he plays a character named Steve he's going to forget who he is?
Roman Coppola, Schwartzman's cousin, is set to direct the flick. The film's plot chronicles a successful graphic designer who rises to fame, is surrounded by beautiful women, and makes tons of money. But he then falls into a quick downward spiral.
Hmmm. I liked it better when it was called Charlie Sheen: Spring 2011.
Sheen recently celebrated his 46th birthday over the Labor Day weekend, and had dinner with his ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, and their twin sons. The family went to Buca di Beppo, an Italian eatery in Los Angeles, to help ring in another year of complete insanity. Sheen Tweeted:
 "Celebrated B-day at @bucadibeppo w/ the boys, Brooke & a bunch of family & friends. Huge portions, stellar staff. We will B back soon..!!!"
I wonder how much he got paid to eat there. His mom, Janet, and eldest daughter, Cassandra, were also present.
Denise Richards didn't attend, but she did Tweet him birthday wishes. To which Sheen responded: "Love you and the girls..!!! Thanks for a great birthday dinner!! Great night! xo c"
So either she was secretly there, or Charlie Sheen has absolutely no idea what's going on. I'm going with the latter.
He also birthday-Tweeted:
 "EPIC year!! Thanks to all for the kind birthday wishes..!! xo c 46..!! 4+6=10 10x10=100..!! I'm gonna outlive you all..! #WINNING..!!!!"
Who can argue with that math?
Charlie Sheen's Comedy Central Roast is coming up soon--September 19th, and the latest names added to the bill are Kate Walsh, William Shatner and Slash. An odd mixture, if you ask me, but the more the merrier, I guess. Mike Tyson and Steve-O are also guests.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama honored the legacy of Sept. 11 victims on Sunday by personally tracing the trail of the terrorist attacks, proudly declaring that the decade since has proven "America does not give in to fear."
At ground zero, Obama stood in solidarity with President George W. Bush right where hijacked airliners smashed into the twin World Trade Center towers in 2001. He touched the names of those etched into a bronze memorial amid the rush of its striking waterfalls.
In a field in western Pennsylvania, Obama strolled along a marbled Wall of Names that stands in tribute to the 40 people who crashed in Shanksville after fighting back against the terrorists. Obama seemed to shake the hand of every person he could reach.
In the rebuilt Pentagon just outside the U.S. capital, the symbol of U.S. military might attacked by terrorists that day, Obama placed a wreath at a memorial where each of 184 victims is remembered. A brass quartet played a soulful rendition of "Amazing Grace."
And finally, back in Washington, after a day he chose to mark mainly by quiet presence, the president spoke of the pride of a nation.
"These past 10 years have shown that America does not give in to fear," he said. Nor to suspicion or mistrust or sacrificed values, he said.
"Our people still work in skyscrapers," Obama said during an evening ceremony centered on American hope and resilience.
"Our stadiums are still filled with fans, and our parks full of children playing ball. ... This land pulses with the optimism of those who set out for distant shores, and the courage of those who died for human freedom."
This was not a day centered on politics.
Obama's principal role was simply to be there -- to be there at every site -- as Americans remembered the nearly 3,000 lives lost and ponder all that has transpired.
On a brilliant, sun-splashed morning, Obama and his wife, Michelle, first walked with Bush and his wife, Laura, to the new North Memorial Pool at New York's ground zero. All four touched the names etched in bronze and silently bowed their heads. The former president wore his anguish clearly.
They then turned to dispense greetings and hugs to family members of those who died.
Bush gave Obama a quick nod of solidarity after the president's reading. It was the first time the two presidents had seen each other since their Rose Garden appearance after the Haiti earthquake in January 2010.
The presidents and their wives stood behind bulletproof glass during the ceremony, an indication of the tight security surrounding the day's events. In Washington, Obama's chief counterterrorism adviser convened a meeting in the Situation Room to review security threats.
Obama, who was an unknown state senator from Illinois when the hijackers struck, has called on Americans to remember and serve -- and to come together.
"Ten years later, I'd say America came through this thing in a way that was consistent with our character," he told NBC News. "We've made mistakes. Some things haven't happened as quickly as they needed to. But overall, we took the fight to al-Qaida, we preserved our values, we preserved our character."
In the broadcast interview, Obama recalled going home after the attacks and rocking his baby daughter, Sasha. "Our first reaction was, and continues to be, just heartbreak for the families involved. The other thing that we all remember is how America came together."

Yohan Blake burns the track again

World champion Yohan Blake equalled his personal best of 9.82 seconds in the 100 metres to set a meet record yesterday, while Americans won gold in the 100 hurdles, shot put and high jump at the ISTAF event.
The 21-year-old Jamaican comfortably beat Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis, who finished in 10.01 at Berlin's Olympic stadium.
"That's why they call me the beast," Blake said. "There were some very good guys in this field, so it wasn't easy to win. I pushed myself to run faster. It's a wonderful feeling to win here. Life changed a bit after the world championship."
Trinidad's Richard Thompson was third in 10.08, with Jamaican Michael Frater - who helped Blake set a world record in the 4x100-metre relay in Daegu, South Korea - finishing fourth.
Blake ran the same 9.82 time at the Weltklasse meet in Zurich last Thursday. The previous meet record was 9.86 held by Maurice Greene and Asafa Powell.
Blake seized the world title in Daegu after training partner Usain Bolt was disqualified for a false start. Bolt, the Olympic champion and world record-holder, skipped the Berlin event.
Dawn Harper led a US sweep of the 100 hurdles in 12.68 seconds, ahead of Kellie Wells and Yvette Lewis.
Jesse Williams of the US won the high jump by clearing 2.33m while Trevor Barry of the Bahamas was second with 2.30m.
Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad claimed the 100m in 11.15, ahead of Jamaicans Sherone Simpson (11.24), Kerron Stewart (11.28) and Aleen Bailey 11.37.

Cops kill two men believed to be members of criminal gang

Two men believed to be members of a criminal gang, were shot dead this morning during a reported gun battle with the police in St. Elizabeth.The men have not yet been identified.
The St Elizabeth police reported that the men were part of a criminal network contributing significantly to crime in the parish.
 "This morning the police went to an area of Retirement Road in Santa Cruz where men were seen who engaged the law enforcement officials and opened fire, the fire was returned and in the end two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds" said Deputy Superintendent in charge of Operations for the parish Lansford Salmon.
They men were taken to Hospital and pronounced dead, while some of the other men escaped.
Two guns, a  point 38 revolver and a double barrell home made shot gun, were reportedly seized.   
DSP Salmon said migrant criminals are causing a problem for the parish, but he's asking residents to be vigilant.  
 "Just a word of caution to citizens in general, we are faced in this parish by migrant criminals from other areas where the pressure is on. Just to encourage residents that as soon as you see strange persons to inform the police so that appropriate action can be taken.
The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, is now probing the incident.

Reggae singer I-Wayne is back with Life Teachings, his long-overdue album on VP Records, due out in October.
The 14 track album is filled with hair-raising lyrics and uncompromising conviction. A release stated that the intricately-crafted album features organic rhythms with rugged bass lines and one-drop drumbeats produced mostly by Patrick Z. Henry, who is responsible for 11 of the album's songs and I-Wayne's breakthrough hit "Can't Satisfy Her".
Understanding the significance of creating a balance in life as well in music, several songs on Life Teachings display a romantic sensitivity not often seen from I-Wayne.

TOKYO (AP) -- A news report says an air traffic controller at Tokyo's Haneda Airport is facing possible punishment after posting confidential information on his blog, including the flight plan for President Barack Obama's visit to Japan last year.
Kyodo News agency says the controller also posted the flight plan for an unmanned American reconnaissance plane that was sent to gather data from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. All the images have since been deleted.
It says the transport ministry is investigating and considering disciplinary action. Calls to the ministry were not answered Saturday.
Obama traveled to Japan in November to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Yokohama.

New appointments within JCF

There have been two new appointments within the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF. The appointments took effect on September 1.  
Kevin Dennis was appointed as Property Services Manager of the Corporate and Special Services Division, and Dr. Kevin Goulbourne is the new Medical Director of the Medical Services Branch.
As Property Services Manager, Mr Dennis  responsibilities will include managing and maintaining all property assets of the JCF, and ensuring the effective delivery of repairs, as well as maintenance and improvements to these assets.
Dr. Goulbourne will add to the complement of medical practitioners who are already working with the Medical Services Branch of the JCF.

Man accused of killing bar maid remanded

A 29 year old resident of May Pen, Clarendon, who is accused of killing a St Elizabeth bar maid, was  remanded on Friday when he appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court.
Devon Blair is answering to six charges, arising from the bar maid's death on August 13.
He has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of fire arm, illegal possession of ammunition, robbery and abduction.
He is scheduled to return to the Santa Cruz RM Court on September 22, when plans for his legal representations should be completed.
Nucia Simms, a 29 year old bar maid, was killed after she was abducted from her apartment in Round Hill, on August 13, by three men armed with guns.
Her body was found later that morning, in bushes along the Haughton Main road in the parish, with several gunshot wounds.
Blair was taken into custody after investigators found Miss Simm's cellular telephone in the possession of his girlfriend.
The St Elizabeth police say they are continuing to search for two other men who were involved in the abduction and murder of Miss Simms.

I bless children with my thoughts and prayers.

As children return to school, I bless them and pray for them to have a positive, enriching experience. I see them waiting for the school bus, anticipating a new school day, and I affirm it will be a good one.

They are ready to learn about the world, other people and themselves. Their minds and hearts are open. I envision each child discovering new skills, enhancing their natural talents, and putting new knowledge to use.

Seeing the children excited about their day stirs a new enthusiasm in me. As a lifelong learner, I look for and find a divine connection in the people and circumstances I encounter. My thoughts and prayers bless each child as they are a blessing to the world.

Report: Lady Gaga Has a New Boyfriend

Lady Gaga has reportedly been dating actor Taylor Kinney of The Vampire Diaries fame. Kinney appears in Gaga's new music video You and I.
The couple reportedly met while shooting the video, and have since been spotted together. An eyewitness saw them at a California beachside bar this week. The source told RadarOnline.com:
"It was just casual at first, but things are getting pretty hot and heavy."
If I'm going to take anything away from this, it's that people do actually use the phrase "hot and heavy."
"I couldn't tell it was her at first. It just looked like some hot couple making out, but then I realized it was Lady Gaga! Everyone went nuts! She was so sweet too - she even signed some autographs."
I change my mind about Lady Gaga about ten times in one week. She gets all pretentious and makes me want to vomit, and then I hear about incredibly normal stuff like this, and I'm like, "okay, she cool." Plus, at least she treats her fans right and doesn't loathe hydrangeas.
Gaga split from her on/off boyfriend Luc Carl for the second time earlier this year. She has said that she gets emotional when she sings You and I because it stirs up feelings and memories from the couple's relationship. Gaga adds:
"There is not one song on any of my records that wasn't written by me, and I think when you write your own music you find ways to reinvent [the songs] emotionally through yourself and performance so that they are different every night and that song you know, sometimes it's about the guys and sometimes it's about the fans."
Gaga and Carl originally started dating in 2005, but split when she rose to superstardom. They began dating again in 2010, and Gaga said they were in a "proper monogamous relationship." Gaga said of her experience with Carl:
"I've really never loved anyone like I loved him. Or like I love him. That relationship really shaped me. I sort of resolved that if you can't have the guy of your dreams, there are other ways to give love."
Then they split again earlier this summer.
The day after Gaga and her new dude were spotted, they were walking hand in hand. Holding hands the next day? Definitely relationship behavior. Another source said: "Her hair was a little messy. It definitely seemed like a 'morning after' situation."

Rockfort under curfew

The police have imposed a curfew on the Eastern Kingston community of Rockfort.
It began at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7 and will remain in effect until Friday, September 9.
The areas to be affected are Pleasant View Road, Mall Road, Shanty Town, Wareika Road, Harbour Road and Mall Road Lane.
Throughout the curfew, everyone within its boundaries must remain within his or her premises unless otherwise authorized, in writing, by the member of the security force, who is in charge of enforcing the restriction.

PNP angers the PSOJ

The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) has taken issue with statements made by Peter Bunting, the General Secretary of the Opposition People's National Party (PNP's) at a press conference on Tuesday, September 6.
Mr. Bunting suggested that the PSOJ was quick to forgive and co-operate in order to repair the prime minister's image, following an apology during the height of the Christopher "Dudus" Coke extradition matter last year.
But in statement on Wednesday, September 7, the PSOJ sought to set the record straight.
The private sector body says on March 10, last year, it issued a statement calling for the Government to expeditiously take steps to allow the local courts to determine the merits of any extradition requests by the United States.
Additionally, the PSOJ said on May 13, 2010, as a member of the President's Council, it called for a suspension of the Partnership For Transformation Talks.
It says the decision was made in the context of concerns over fundamental issues of governance, the spiralling crime rate, and the links between organized crime and the two major parties.
And the PSOJ further pointed out that following the May 2010 incursion into Tivoli Gardens, it was adamant that there should be full disclosure on the Dudus Affair.

J'can remanded in Canada on prostitution charges

A Jamaican man described as a pimp and listed as one of Canada's most-wanted fugitives is scheduled to appear in court, after he was remanded on Wednesday, September 7.
Canadian police say Walford Uriah Steer, 39, an illegal immigrant from Jamaica, with 76 convictions, often travelled from Toronto to Montreal, befriended young girls at bus and train stations, then allegedly forced them into a life of prostitution.
On Wednesday, Mr. Steer answered charges related to his arrest last week, for allegedly trying to pimp a 16-year-old girl.
He has been charged with procuring for the purpose of prostitution, exercising control, and living off the avails of prostitution.
His case was adjourned until Thursday, September 8, when his lawyer will be able to attend court.      
Mr. Steer was deported in 1999 for criminality, and then snuck back into Canada, in 2000, allegedly using fake identification.
He filed a failed refugee claim as well as appeals, in an attempt to remain in Canada.
Mr. Steer was the subject of a nationwide manhunt that ended after he and 31 others had their identities posted online by the Canada Border Services Agency, which has been seeking the public's help in bagging the fugitives.
Three suspects, including Steer, were arrested.

Jah Cure banned from Mobo Awards

Reggae artiste Jah Cure has had his nomination for a Mobo (Music of Black Origin) award in the best reggae act category withdrawn, after organizers found out he was a convicted rapist.
The 33-year-old was given a prison sentence in 1999.
Jah Cure, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, was released in 2007.
Mobo organisers said they made the decision after finding about about the "severity of the crime" ahead of the ceremony in Glasgow in October.
The move leaves just four remaining nominees in the best reggae act category - Damian Marley & Nas, Alborosie, Khago and Mavado.
This is not the first time a reggae act has been dropped from the awards.
In 2004 danceahall Vybz Kartel and Elephant Man were both removed from the category after they refused to apologise for homophobic lyrics.
Jason Derulo and Alesha Dixon will host this year's ceremony, which recognises music of black origin such as R&B, jazz and hip hop.
The Mobos, now in the 16th year, take place in Glasgow on October 5.

If anyone knows how to celebrate their birthday in style, it's Beyonce. Queen B spent her 30th birthday with her hubby Jay Z and close friend Gwyneth Paltrow in Venice, Italy.
Gwyneth is in Venice to promote her new movie 'Contagion' alongside Matt Damon, so she both joined Beyonce and Jay on a luxury yacht for B's birthday. How convenient. Ah, rich people. 'I just happened to in Venice and omg there's Beyonce, so we joined them on their gazillion dollar yacht.'
Beyonce spent most of her 30th birthday sunbathing on the top deck of the yacht. Is that ok for pregnant women?
On Saturday night Beyonce was spotted leaving her hotel room rocking her natural curls and a multi-print maxi dress that hid her growing bump. The couple had dinner at "one of the city's most celebrated restaurants," according to People magazine via. foreign press reports.
Queen B announced that she's preggers at the MTV VMA's just last week, setting a record on Twitter for TPS (tweets per second). She showed up on the carpet and told photographers, "I have a surprise for you," and showed off her beautiful baby bump.
During her VMA performance of 'Love on Top' she told the crowd, "I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me."
Earlier this year, Beyonce spoke of her desire to settle down into being a wife and mother.
She said: "When you're young - 18 or 19 - you have the energy and drive. That's the time to work as hard as you can.
Back in June, Beyonce told Piers Morgan she was looking forward to turning the big 3-0.
"I feel like a woman," the singer told Morgan. "I feel like I'm very aware of who I am. I feel great and I feel like 30 is the ideal age, because you're mature enough to know who you are and to have your boundaries and your standards, and not be afraid, too polite, but you're young enough to be a young woman. I'm so looking forward to it."
Beyonce also hinted that she was ready to start a family, adding "I always said I'd have a baby at 30."

Water commission says new meters more accurate

The National Water Commission (NWC) is encouraging customers with the new meters to conserve water as much as possible in order to avoid receiving high bills.
According to the NWC, the new meters are more accurate in measuring the amount of water used, and therefore, consumers who have switched from the older meters are likely to see an increase in their bills.
Charles Buchanan, NWC's corporate public relations manager, said the old meters have been under-registering water usage.
Buchanan explained the level of miscalculation is based on the age and condition of the meter.
The new metres can also help customers to detect leaks, Buchanan said, giving them greater control over their water usage.
He disclosed that a programme is underway to replace 70,000 meters across several parishes, including Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Ann, St. Catherine, Clarendon and St. Mary.
The NWC is the second utility company to admit that customers have been undercharged as a result of inaccuracy in the measurement of their consumption.
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has also said its older mechanical meters have been under-registering electricity usage.

Daegu to help JA with its 50th Independence celebrations

Following Jamaica's impressive performance at the just-concluded 13th IAAF World Athletics Championships South Korean, the host city of Daegu has promised assistance for Jamaica's 50th Independence celebrations. 
The commitment comes on the heels of the slashing of $15 million from the $50 million that had been set aside by the Government for next year's milestone Independence festivities.
Kim Yon Chang, the Vice-Mayor of Political Affairs for Daegu Metropolitan City, gave the pledge of assistance, during a meeting with Olivia "Babsy" Grange, the Minister of Sports. 
Ms. Grange says the assistance will be for fireworks and lighting effects.
It will also provide for exchanges in the areas of sports and culture.
The Sports Minister also met with the South Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to explore the sharing of knowledge and expertise by Jamaica and South Korea in sports and culture and, in particular, athlete development, coaching and use of technology.
Ms. Grange says South Korea is strategically important to Jamaica,  offering tremendous possibilities for the promotion of Jamaican sports, music and culture.

David Smith back in the TCI to serve his sentence

Convicted fraudster, David Smith is now in the Turks and Caicos Islands serving his sentence in that country.
Mr Smith who was sentenced in the US is to return to serve the additional time.  Former Olint boss, David Smith was sentenced to 30 years in a U.S.prison on August 11, less than a month ago.
His crime...defrauding up to six thousand people of about 220 million U.S. dollars.
That sentence took place after he was similarly convicted in the Turks and Caicos Islands for six and a half years, and it seemed then to suggest that he would escape his conviction in the Caribbean.   However that was not to be.
Mr Smith was taken back to the Turks and Caicos Islands last week.
He was returned under the guard of U.S Marshalls, to serve out the six and a half years sentence that was imposed on him by a Turks and Caicos Judge, after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to fraud and money laundering charges.
When he completes his time in the TCI, he has to return to the USA to finish his three decade sentence, which his lawyer Oliver Smith, has already indicated, will be appealed.

All systems go for Houston's Swagg Jamz

It is gearing up to be Houston's worst kept secret - the monthly Swagg Jamz which will have its kick-off on Friday, September 9, 2011.
A project of Crossroad Production and Entertainment Group, Swagg Jamz, will take place the second Friday of each month at Club Riddims and will consist of great music, exciting theme nights, along with a live  performer some Fridays.
"It's all about having fun - getting your swagger on and jamming to the musical mix of experienced deejays, while feeling a heightened sense of belonging by being part of the chosen theme for that Friday. For the first Jamz on September 9, we will have DJ Vibes and in October we will have Red Rat as the live performer," a representative from Crossroads Production explained.
"Right now, we know that in music circles it's all about 'tunning up di swagga'," promoter Brown said with a smile, as he added that the idea came to him after he saw the enthusiasm with which Houston embraced the Swag dance.
"We had two shows recently - one in Houston and the other in Dallas, and while Kip Rich was on stage, a Caucasian woman was dancing and he called her on stage and taught her the Swag dance. The audience loved it. Then I started thinking that perhaps it would be a good idea to offer person some kind of monthly entertainment and fill a void that now exists," said Mr. Brown, who has been involved in the music business for over 15 years.
The only name that came to his mind for the monthly event was the Swagg Jamz. He pitched the idea to a couple of persons, they liked it and Brown decided to run with it.
Formerly a record producer, Brown is now involved in promotions and is known for his annual, well-produced reggae show,  with many of the genre's top artistes. He brings his skills to the Swagg Jamz, which, he says will cater to the 18-35 age group and will be a heavy reggae jam. The music, Brown pointed out will be 90 percent reggae/dancehall, while the other 10 percent will be a mixture of soca, hip hop, R&B and other genres.

Beenie sad over divorce from D'Angel

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall artiste, Moses "Beenie Man" Davis has gone into greater detail regarding his separation from his wife of 5 years,Michelle "D'A
ngel" Downer; implying that he is heartbroken by their recent marital issues.
Beenie Man told TVJ's EMix that he initially intended to divorce D'Angellast year but the couple constantly resolved their issues and ended up back together. However, the "King of the Dancehall" intimated that D'Angel's decision not to appear at his birthday party almost two weeks ago was the last straw; made worse by the fact D'Angel went to former rival, Bounty Killer's birthday party earlier this summer.
"Regardless a if mi and her have a divorce agreement to deal wid, I think she shudda still come a my birthday because mi is her husband and me is Marco Dean father, so why should you call me and tell me pon my phone seh yuh a go to Bounty Killer birthday party, when Bounty Killer disrespect you so much in the media and call yuh di worst tings," Beenie said. Bounty Killer, formerly was in a relationship with D'Angel, engaged in a lyrical battle with Beenie Man regarding the "Blaze" singer in 2006.
Given that factor, Beenie suggested that he could no longer take the emotional toll their issues had on him; asking D'Angel to send the divorce papers that would finally put an end to their rollercoaster marriage. "Mi jus' decide seh, Please mi a beg yuh, jus' finish mi heartache and mi hurt, just please mi a beg yuh, jus' sen di divorce papers," Beenie stated. D'Angelsent the divorce papers two days later and released a statement clarifying that she sent them and that they could no longer co-exist as a couple.
Despite their constant arguments Beenie explained that he and D'Angel tried several times to put their differences aside but now he implores it's time to sever ties for good. "With all due respect, mi love and respect mi wife but love and respect don't really cut it when di person don't gi yuh back di same amount of love that you give them," Beenie said.

SEHRA treating baby who was breast fed by HIV positive mentally-ill woman

The South East Regional Health Authority (SEHRA) is grappling with a disturbing incident that occurred at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, which falls under its jurisdiction.
SEHRA officials have launched a major probe after a mentally-ill patient, who is HIV-positive, fed contaminated breast milk to a baby at the institution.
The incident reportedly happened on Sunday, September 4.
Reports are that the mentally-ill patient was recently transferred from the Bellevue Hospital and was being treated following the recent delivery of her baby.
However, she managed to gain access to the hospital's nursery, where the incident took place.
According to Littleton "Tanny" Shirley, the Chairman of SEHRA, everything happened quickly.  
"She was being treated on the ward for delivery and in the process, went in the (premature) nursery and got a hold of one of the babies and ended up breasting feeding the baby. A nurse intervened and she was then taken back to her ward," Mr. Shirley said.
He further explained that following the incident, the hospital began treating the newborn, who is now in intensive care, and at the same time reached out to the mother.   
"We had a meeting with her with counsellors and the medical team, who explained to her what transpired. We assured her that the best medical care had been extended to the baby," Mr. Shirley stated.
He could not confirm whether the baby contracted the virus, but explained that they are administering a course of treatment in the event that it did.  
"There's a very slim possibility that that would be so but we're not taking any chance ... the medical team is taking all necessary precautions and doing all the tests to ensure the safety of the baby," Mr. Shirley said.

The highly anticipated Reggae Rhythm & Blues show took over New York City (NYC) on Sunday, September 4 and according to reports, it was all fans expected and lots more.
Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds rocked the stage with several of his classic hits, while international Rhythm & Blues singer Monica also pleased the crowd.

There are also reports that dancehall deejay Mavado, who recently signed to hip hop hitmaking producer DJ Khalid's We The Best Music, also gave a great performance.
A surprise performance from Khago,
 a MOBO (music of Black Origins) Award nominee, also had the audience in a frenzy.

Cedella Marley to dress Bolt & the J'can team at the London Olympics

When Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt takes part in next year's Olympic opening ceremony in London, he along with his team-mates will be dressed by Cedella Marley, the daughter of another Jamaican legend, the late reggae singer Bob Marley.  
Cedella told The Times that the strip would be a mix of 'Grace Jones meets her Dad'.
She said "Everything looks fabulous ... I love playing with patterns and playing textures.
Cedella noted that the Catch A Fire album from her father had particularly influenced her design.
She also said she had also been commissioned to design the suits for the opening and closing ceremonies in London.
Cedella ended by saying said that Bolt and his team-mates are simply carrying on a Jamaican tradition in proving they are winners and she is so happy that they have also asked her to design opening ceremony and podium wear.

While addressing reasons for choosing WTB, States Julian Mavado's Manager, "a lot of labels and situations have been coming at me with offers and I listened to everyone but to us partnering up with Khaled and We The Best Music just made the most sense. He's familiar with the music and culture, Jamaican music played a big part in Khaled's journey to success and he acknowledges that too. Khaled used to be in Jamaica all the time, he had a record on Bounty's last album, we've had records on his albums, we been friends for years. Since Khaled blew up and got his own situation he's been talking to me about signing Gully God ever since. Nothing happens before time so everything lined up at the right time and we finally made it happen."

With past collaborations with artist such as Jay-Z and Wyclef Jean, Mavado is looking forward to working with some of the worlds most established musical acts as well as producers. Through this deal with Khaled he will have an unlimited access to the best of everything including radio. Undeniably Khaled has an ear for talent and hit music which Mavado wants to incorporate in his newly inspired music. One of Khaled's achievements include 2010 hit "All I Do is Win," with T-Pain, Ludacris, Rick Ross and Snoop. This single even achieved heightened success through a remix with Sean "Diddy" Combs, Nicki Minaj, Jada Kiss, Fat Joe and Fabolous. Recently this year Khaled has released the smash single "I'm On One" featuring Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne which has become a street anthem for all.

Recently the Gully God has recorded a street banger featuring fellow WTB artist rapper Ace Hood called "Emergency." Thursday night DJ Funkmaster Flex premiered the record on HOT 97 to positive reviews from people across the entire tri-state area. While a single sure to rise to the charts and a new music family in his corner Mavado is on the continued road to musical success. With his growth as an artist he will never forget his heritage and undoubtedly will bring Jamaica's presence with him wherever he goes.
