Twelve people are in police custody following the seizure of a gun, several rounds of ammunition and ganja in St. Thomas on Sunday, July 24.The seizure occurred about 6:00 a.m. during an operation in Grants Pen involving teams from the St. Thomas and Marine Divisions assisted by the Caribbean Search Centre.
During the operation, four premises were searched and approximately 300 pounds of compressed ganja, a semi-automatic pistol, and an assortment of ammunition were seized.
They found 59 .4.5 millimetre cartridges, 48 5.56 millimetre cartridges, 6 .38 millimetre cartridges, 28 nine millimetre cartridges and 5 magazines including an extended magazine for a Glock pistol.
Two boats, 4 boat engines, approximately 100 gallons of boat fuel, one Global Positioning System (GPS) and a compass were also seized.
The identities of those in custody are being withheld pending further investigations.
The police have theorised that the seizure of the items are linked to the guns for drugs trade involving Jamaicans and Haitians.
