REDjet forced to cut staff

Beleaguered low fare airline REDjet has been forced to cut staff following
delays in getting approval to fly to Jamaica as well as Trinidad.
REDjet announced on Tuesday that it will be laying off eight of its cabin crew.
The airline is hoping that the move will be temporary as it seeks permission to
commence service to Jamaica and Trinidad.
The Civil Aviation Authority said it would have indicated last week if REDjet
had been given clearance to fly to Jamaica, however, to date there has been no
word on the matter.
The CAA earlier said as a precautionary measure its Board made the decision to
hold off on the application to determine if there is any conflict with the
Caribbean Airlines/Air Jamaica merger.
