Depraved sex attacker 'Night Stalker' convicted in London

Delroy Grant, the Jamaican man, branded one of the most prolific and depraved sex attackers in British history, has been convicted of a series of sex attacks on elderly people in south London. The police say Grant, 53, who has been dubbed the 'Night Stalker', raped and assaulted elderly victims over 17 years in south London.

They say he was responsible for some of the most "awful and disturbing crimes" in the history of Scotland Yard.

But they also apologised for missing chances which could have stopped him.

According to the police, Grant has been linked to incidents involving 203 separate surviving victims - but they fear his actual number of victims could be as many as 600.

They say many of these victims may have died without reporting their attack.

The British police branded Grant a "perverted, callous and violent individual" who attacked some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Grant, of Honor Oak, south London, denied the 29 charges, including burglary, rape and sexual assault, between 1992 and 2009, at Woolwich Crown Court.

The court heard the vulnerable victims were targeted in their homes at night.
