Former Jamaican sprint queen Merlene Ottey has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Comeback of the Year Award to be held February 7 in Abu Dhabi.

Ottey has been nominated alongside American sprinter Tyson Gay and Swedish heptathlete Caroline Kluft and tennis player Justine Henin.

Ottey has been nominated after she became the oldest woman to compete in the European Championships at age 50.

Meanwhile, recently crowned World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi and tennis aces Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams lead the nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt and American Serena Williams were winners of the respective male and female awards last year.

Football World Cup champions Spain, the European Ryder Cup team, European Champions league winners Inter Milan of Italy, Red Bull Formula One team and New Zeland's All Black Rugby have been nominated for Team of the Year Award.
