The Police Federation has expressed disappointment in what it says is the failure of communities to protect the police.
This, the group which represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, says is despite the fact that police officers dedicate their lives to protecting communities.
The Federation comments come on the wake of the killing of Constable Dwayne Brown, 33, who was shot dead Friday night in Valentine Gardens, Kingston.
Constable Brown worked in the Protective Services Division of the Force.
He was talking to a woman at a gate on Cascade Way in Valentine Gardens shortly after 10 o'clock, when two men approached him and demanded money.
Constable Brown reportedly threw his wallet on the ground and one of the men shot him.
He died on the spot.
The men made off with his firearm.
The woman was not harmed.
While expressing condolences to the family of Constable Dwayne Brown, Sergeant Raymond Wilson Chairman of the Federation, said the entire police family was outraged by the murder of their colleague.
He said Federation's members would be taking all steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.
