The United States is reportedly closer to having convicted former Olint boss David Smith flown to America to prosecute him.



David Smith is now in a Turks and Caicos prison serving a sentence on two counts of money laundering and two counts of conspiracy to defraud.



He is also wanted in America to face charges related to the collapse of the Olint.



Oliver Smith, the lawyer for David Smith told the Gleaner yesterday that he’s aware that the US is making efforts to have his client in America.



Oliver Smith also said that US officials have been in contact with him and Turks authorities.



On September 23, David Smith was sentenced to six and half years in prison in the Turks and Caicos after he pleaded guilty to two counts of money laundering and two counts of conspiracy to defraud.



As part of the deal for him to plead guilty, 26 other fraud related charges were dropped against David Smith and his wife was freed of similar charges.



David Smith is alleged to have lost billions of dollars in investments by Olint club members in his unregulated scheme.
