Second Bahamian plane crash

Four Bahamian passengers were treated at a Florida hospital for injures sustained in a plane crash on Wednesday.

It was the second such incident in a week.

Eight people died on Tuesday when a charter flight crashed into a Lake after taking off from the capital Nassau.

"It's an unfortunate coincidence with these two things happening one behind the other. If you look at the number of take offs and landing within the commonwealth of the Bahamas, this is a very small fraction of the numbers and our volume is much higher than anybody else in the region in terms of people traveling by air," said Vincent Vanderpool Wallace, Minister of Tourism and Aviation in the Bahamas.

"From everything we've seen, there's really no reason to be concerned about the level of air safety in the Bahamas as it is obvious from the absence of incidents over a long period of time, that it's generally very, very safe. We have a great group of people working in the civil aviation to make sure that we maintain a high safety record," he added.
