One man is dead and four members of a family are nursing gunshot wounds after gunmen went on the rampage in Hellshire, St. Catherine, on Monday night.

Up to late Monday night the police were combing the Hellshire community in search of the gunmen.

The dead man has been identified only as "Blackie Bud" of a Sand Hill address in Hellshire.

It is reported that shortly after 8 o'clock, armed thugs invaded a house along Canary Way in the Hellshire Park Housing Scheme and opened fire on the occupants.

The man and four teens, ages 18, 17, 15 and 13, who were in the house, were shot.

Terrified residents ran in different directions on hearing the explosions.

The five victims were rushed to hospital where the man known as "Blackie Bud" was pronounced dead.
The teenagers who are siblings were admitted in serious but stable condition.

The police theorise that the shooting was triggered by the murder of 20-year-old Romaine Emmanuel, a resident of Basalt Drive in Hellshire Glades, earlier in the day.

Mr. Emmanuel and a group of friends were walking home after attending a wake in Hellshire Park at about three o'clock in the morning, when they were attacked by a gunman.

The man opened fire hitting Mr. Emmanuel and a 22-year-old man.
Mr. Emmanuel was pronounced dead at hospital and the other man admitted.
The police believe the shootings stem from a gang feud in the Hellshire area.
