Cops, gunmen in shootout in Claremont, St Ann

A gunman is battling for life while his accomplice has been arrested following a shoot out with the police on Wednesday night in Orange Park, Claremont, St. Ann.

Shortly before 10 o'clock the two men boarded a taxi in St. Ann's Bay.

While the vehicle was travelling towards Lime Hall, one of them reportedly pulled a firearm and ordered the driver to stop.

The driver obeyed and ran from the vehicle, after which the men took the steering wheel amd drove off.

Following a report to the St. Ann's Bay Police Station a search was carried out and the vehicle was later spotted in Orange Park. The driver was signalled by the police to stop but he sped off and a chase ensued.

A few minutes later the men were cornered on a road and there was a gun battle with the police.

One of the men was hit and taken to hospital in critical condition.

His accomplice was arrested.
