Tributes to Miss Lou on her birthday

The life of Jamaica’s First Lady of Comedy, the Honourable Louise Simone Bennett Coverley, also known as 'Miss Lou' was celebrated yesterday, which was her birthday.

Her name is synonymous with the coming of age of Jamaican culture. Miss Lou, folklorist, poet, actress, author, songwriter, singer, comedienne, activist, Jamaican cultural icon.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange marked the celebration of Ms Lou Day in honour of the work of Jamaica’s leading comedienne and cultural icon.
She was born on September 7.

Miss Lou is known to thousand around the world, who through her Jamaican expressions has captured the spirit of many and caused respectability for the language of our people.

Minister Grange says Miss Lou believed in and understood the value of authentic Jamaican cultural expressions.

During this month, a series of celebration events will be held across the country.
