Jury selected in Buju’s trial

The selection of a jury reportedly took place this morning for the trial of international reggae artiste Mark ‘Buju Banton’ Myrie in the Middle District Court in Tampa, Florida, a report carried by RJR news stated.

The trial reportedly began at 9:00 o’clock this morning.

Buju and two co-accused, Ian Thomas and James Mack, were arrested in December last year in South Florida and charged with conspiracy to possess more than five kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.

A grand jury indictment also charged him with carrying a firearm during the course of a drug trafficking crime.

Thomas and Mack have since entered into a plea deal with prosecutors.

Reports reaching Yardflex are that a prayer vigil was held in Florida last night and a number of persons from the entertainment fraternity had expressed a desire to be present at today’s session.

Buju, up to last evening, was reportedly in “good spirits”.
