Lawyers representing popular entertainer Vybz Kartel are awaiting word from the Police High Command on whether their client will be released from custody.

Kartel, whose given name is Adijah Palmer, turned himself over to the police on Friday.

He was questioned by detectives at the Greater Portmore Station Monday evening.

According to one of his attorneys, Christian Tavares-Finson, during the questioning, there was no specific mention of the artiste being involved in any criminal activity.

As a result, Mr. Tavares-Finson is hoping that Kartel will be released from custody later this week.

“It was general questions … it was nothing specific about any particular criminal activity. We’re now waiting to see whether or not the Police High Command will form the view that he is to be detained further.

“His period of detention should be up by Friday at which point in time, the (National Security) Minister will make a decision whether or not to detain him further ... we’re hoping he’ll be out by then,” Mr. Tavares Finson.

The entertainer was among six persons who were named by the St. Catherine South Police as major persons of interest.
