The Ministry of Health is advising distributors, wholesalers and retailers that sale of the following children’s preparations is to be suspended until further notice: Benadryl, Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin and Zyrtec.

McNeil Consumer HealthCare, a US based company issued a recall of the products because they did not meet required quality specifications.

The Ministry wishes to reassure the public that there is no cause for panic or serious concern at this time, as the issue is not related to the safety of any of the active ingredients in the products or an adverse event associated with use.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States chief medication watchdog, has advised that the potential for serious medical problems is “remote”.

Notwithstanding, the Jamaican public is being asked not to purchase any of these medicines and to stop using any which may have been previously purchased, until the Ministry issues further instructions.
