Police under attack

The Police High Command says intelligence and surveillance of the zones of conflict in West Kingston indicates that criminal elements are determined to launch coordinated attacks on the security forces.

A release from Owen Ellington, Commissioner of Police, said the police have images and other surveillance data showing that members of several gangs across the country have joined criminal elements in Tivoli gardens in their attack on the security forces.

Commissioner Ellington said the security forces continue to respond in a manner appropriate to theses continued unprovoked attacks.

Earlier Sunday, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force attempting to clear road blocks in downtown Kingston and Denham Town came under sustained gun fire from criminals firing rifles.

These attacks continued unabated and one member of the Island Special Constabulary Force was shot in the hand.
In addition, gunfire was directed at the Fletcher’s Land, Darling Street Denham Town and Hannah Town Police Stations forcing the police to employ extra ordinary measures to protect staff and secure the facilities.

The back of the Hannah Town Police Station was also set on fire.
Reports are also in that the Spanish Town Police came under attack last night from gunmen they had to beat a hasty retreat into the Spanish Town Hospital.

Old Harbour police vehicle was stoned by criminal elements too.
