Fresh concern is being raised about security on the compound of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) in downtown Kingston.

This follows reports that gunmen and unauthorized persons are constantly invading the hospital, creating a nightmare for employees, patients and visitors.

The issue has been raised by the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) which in a statement Wednesday, called on the government to intensify efforts to strength security measures at the hospital.

According to Edith Allwood-Anderson, NAJ President, the situation has worsened with recent incidents of shooting occurring in the vicinity of the KPH.

She says as a result, nurses are afraid of reporting for duties.

"I'm saying nurses are fearful of coming to work and government must take urgent steps to immediately reduce the impact of the gun violence within the geographic area where nurses live, work and stay," she said.
