Macka_yardflex-carlingtonWilmottour.jpgIt's a busy summer for lady DJ Macka Diamond. The DJ with her lyrical style of championing women's causes and not mincing words when it comes to 'money o' has found a comfortable niche for herself in the dancehall, especially where women folks are concerned.

Currently the hard-hitting, nuh pet man DJ is gearing up to leave the island on Friday to promote her Greensleeves produced Money O album in the United States. Dubbed 'Summer Jam Tour 06' her promotional stint will see doing shows in several states.

Her first show kicks off on Saturday at Da Real Thing Café in Jacksonville, Florida. The following day will see her heading for Richmond, Virginia for a show at the Canal Club. July 5 Macka Diamond makes a stop in Atlanta then it's on to New Haven, Connecticut for a show at Toad's Place, July 7 Spring Valley, NY, July 8 Greensboro, NC, July 9 Washington, MD, July 12 Hagerstown, PA, July 13 Rochester, NY, July 14 Hartford, CT, July 15 Tampa, FL and July 16 Delaware, DE.

he thought of Shane-O as a son said.

Shane-O was signed to a four year deal with Sno Cone, but Cone is thinking about cutting him loose.

Galaxy P Transforms to Ras Ptah

RasPtah.jpgWhatever happened to Galaxy P? Remember he scored
big hits in the 90s.

He has changed his name to Ras Amun Ra Ptah.
"I decided to mek changes in my life, and move to a more spiritual and divine name, that's why I chose an ancient Egyptian name, Ptah, which means 'peace to the world'," he told YardFlex.Com.

Years ago, when he was riding high in the dancehall world, things took a dramatic turn for the worse in Galaxy P's life. He endured a particularly torrid 2003 when he was shot in his Greater Portmore
home by armed men, and then a few months later, the SUV in which he was traveling crashed in a major accident on the Washington Boulevard road in St. Andrew. The vehicle was written off, but no one died
in the accident.

"From I start to rass (grow locks) in 2005, things start to change for me. I see life differently, I read my bible and other books that teach me about life, and open up my eyes how to live as a man in this world. People even deal with me different since me rass, they are more respectful, even the radio disc jocks play me more, so it is a good thing to take things on a more spiritual level rather than a physical level," he told YardFlex.Com

gyptian_yardflexTwins.jpgSuperstitious people are fond of saying that bad things often come in threes. And that dark belief appears to be holding true in singer Gyptian's life.

Five weeks ago, his twin sons died after they were born prematurely. A few weeks later, his favourite aunt suffered a serious stroke, and is just recovering. And just last Thursday, one of his best friends,
deejay Miguel 'Marco Brand' Skinner, died of what is suspected to be a heart attack. He was just 25 years old. Three strikes. Three bad breaks. Three. Good ole unlucky number three; a number that denotes 'dead' in the popular local 'drop pan' game.

Through all his recent adversity, Gyptian has maintained a veneer of calm and composure, but his friend's death was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, and opened up the flood gates of sorrow.

'When mi twins dem dead, mi heart start beat fast, but no water neva come to mi eye. But when mi hear that Marco Brand dead the Thursday, mi bawl, mi bawl' he was more than a friend; him come in like mi
bredda,' said Gyptian, whose seminal hit, 'Serious Times' topped all major charts locally and overseas last year.

BibiRicordoGardner.jpgFootballer Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner is set to launch his rhythm that was created by Sam Diggy and Carl Morrison, while Dean Fraser sang harmony on many of the songs.

"Right now, mi feel say the Sizzla sell off, and people really feeling the Emperor song," Bibi told YardFlex.Com while he hung out at the newly-opened Natural Bridge studios in St. Andrew.

The footballer will be in Jamaica until the end of August, and he is still on crutches, recovering from surgery. He is expected to return to Bolton Wanderers for the new season. He is a staunch supporter of
Argentina, and believes that "they cannot lose this World Cup, nobody caan beat dem, ah my team".
The singles will appear on a one-drop rhythm called 'Potential' which features singles like 'Makes No Sense' - Norris Man; 'Marijuana' - Tanto; 'Jus Caan Water We Down' - Richie Spice; 'Be Strong' - Sizzla;
'No More War' - Empress; 'Great' - Emperor; and several others. The singles have already been enjoying good rotation on local radio stations like IRIE, and ZIP.

"I am just trying to follow in the footsteps of great producers like King Jammys and King Tubbys, and also leave my own footsteps in the sands of time, so that a few years from now, people can say Big A did it that way," he said, explaining the origins of the name, 'Footsteps'.

"We have a new project just drop called HWT (Half Way Tree), Anthony Cruz scored big, LUST has a song called 'You Got Me', Lady Saw has a song called 'What If' and Tanya's 'Rescue', all of these songs will be on the respective artiste's albums, so I am pleased with how things have gone. In addition, just in March, the Kingston, Jamaica native's hard work paid off when she was nominated for the "Best New Entertainer Award" at the International Reggae and World Music Awards.

Fresh off of a whirlwind club tour in the U.S., Chynn kicks it with VIBE.com about her musical family, her new album, and about being compared to other Caribbean female artists.

Vibe: Tell me about your musical background.

Tami Chynn: My mother was a vocalist and she played the trumpet. My father was also a musician, he played the drums and the bass guitar. When I was growing up, they were both in a band called The Carnations, so I was always around music

Do you play any instruments yourself?

Tami Chynn: I dabble a little every now and then with the guitar, but I'm not really a musician. I'm more of a singer and performer.

Mr.Peppa_Robbed.jpgDeejay Jahzeal 'Mr. Peppa' Walters was robbed of US $1,500, two Razr phones, and a television set on Saturday morning by a gang of robbers who invaded his rented home on Roehampton Drive off Mannings Hill road in Upper St. Andrew.

"A group of four men, one with a gun, the other with knives broke into the deejay's home at about 4 a.m. and ask, deejay, 'where the money yu bring back from foreign de?' They put him to lie down on his face, and proceeded to rob him. There is a door that leads to an adjoining room where the landlord and his family lives, and the men went in on them as well and put them to lie down on their faces, and robbed them as well. They took away television sets, money and jewelery and escaped in the landlord's car," Mark Pinnock, chief executive officer of Natural Bridge Records and manager of Mr. Peppa, told YardFlex.Com.

The car was later found abandoned on Waltham Park road, and its four tyres and radio were missing. The deejay had only returned to Jamaica a few hours earlier where he'd gone to participate in the Irie Jam Celebrity Soccer match in New York.

"When the men were leaving, they said, 'deejay ah the work we de pon, ah just how the system set up'," Pinnock said. "Mr. Peppa is a bit shaken up, but he sounds upbeat about the whole thing, he can always work and buy back valuables, what is important is that he was not harmed during the robbery."

AkonBabyCham.jpgCham is taking his game to another level. He has teamed up with Senegalese singer, Akon, to do the remix to his hit tune, Ghetto Story, where Akon takes the time out and sings of his story.

While Cham's Ghetto Story is reminiscent of his rough childhood (sleeping "on a big piece of foam" and not liking to bathe or comb his hair), Akon's story is a little different. He tells of being "born poor like many men" until he went "to America tryin' to make something out of nothing."

Akon and Cham take turns singing and spitting, respectively, about their stories. It's an interesting mix.

Mr.Peppa_Hot97.jpgBrooklyn, New York:
Earlier this week, Mr. Peppa of 'Hypocrite' fame, landed a big break when he voiced three drops for DJ Jazzy Joyce, one of the top female disc jockeys on Hot 97.1 FM in New York.

He recorded dub plates of his dancehall hit, 'Hypocrite' on Cam'ron's 'Touch it or Not', then he did 'Gangsta Guerilla' on another Cam'ron joint, 'Wet Wipes' from his album called 'Killer Season', and even flipped a few rhymes on a reggaeton beat.

DJ Jazzy Joyce will be playing this Friday at 8 p.m. during her show, 'Ladies Night' which she hosts alongside DJ Coco Chanel, and who knows, she might just drop one of those dub plates tonight.
Mr. Peppa seemed pretty pleased with the opportunity.

Music video director Ras Kassa of 'Welcome to Jamrock' fame got his major international break when he co-directed Sean Paul's latest video which was done for the single, 'Never Gonna Be the Same' alongside internationally recognised director Jesse Terrero who shot the infamous 50 Cent 'Candy Shop' video.

"It was a great vibe between me and Jesse, we shared ideas and I learned things from him and he maybe learned about how to make a Caribbean video, we just combined and the energy was great...the video is going to be great, some people say that it's the best song on his album," Ras Kassa of Guru Films said.

The video was shot on May 26th and May 27th in locations in Port Royal in East Kingston, Standpipe, St. Andrew and Jack's Hill in upper St. Andrew. It was the first time that Ras Kassa had worked with Sean Paul and Mr. Vegas since the project, 'Hot Gal Today' that was shot with Kevin Lee several years ago.

Mr.Lex-video.jpgDeejay Mr. Lex will be shooting a video in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada for a combination single, 'Reggae's Real' with singer Luciano and a reggae group called Bonafide which is based in Las Vegas.

"The single is getting a good buzz in Jamaica and getting good airplay on several radio stations in Las Vegas, like 98.5 FM, and it is a good sign for reggae here in this part of the US. Our reggae band has played to sold out shows at the House of Blues, Santa Fe, and even Mandalay Bay. Las Vegas is a hot spot for reggae right now," Junior Roots, the lead singer of Bonafide, told YardFlex.Com.

The Bonafide band is comprised of the Stephens brothers, Junior Roots, Ricky Dread, Kevin, Waynie Bass and Terry.

The singles will appear on a one-drop rhythm called 'Potential' which features singles like 'Makes No Sense' - Norris Man; 'Marijuana' - Tanto; 'Jus Caan Water We Down' - Richie Spice; 'Be Strong' - Sizzla;
'No More War' - Empress; 'Great' - Emperor; and several others. The singles have already been enjoying good rotation on local radio stations like IRIE, and ZIP.

Now that he has made his name as a disc jock, he has begun to tackle new projects. Enter Footsteps, a production house set up with his good friend, Lyndon 'Laza' House. They have put out a number of musical rhythms that have done pretty well locally.

Sales were pretty decent, and we got good support across the board," he told YardFlex.Com.

HollowPoint-CarlingtonWilmot-Photos_yardflex.jpgBrace yourself world for the next big thing, Shevon Toriano Stewart aka Hollow Point! A dapper, clean cut, quiet and humble artist, as we Jamaicans would say "one a way" meaning reserved. Do not be fooled by the flamboyant pretty boy look, Hollow point is a true gangsta much like his mentor the Wild Apachie Super Cat.

Hollow Point bounced back and forth between studios and producers for a little while before his cousin, dancehall artist Chico introduced him to his friend Alozade, who then introduced him to producer Scatta who made him a part of his camp for just about five years. He had a number of songs released on the Kings of Kings label in that time period.

After leaving this camp Hollow Point recorded for a selected few producers including Steelie and Clevie of studio 2000 .Cool Face another reputable producer introduced him to top record producer Don Carleon who gave him the opportunity to record a number of songs for his label including Most Infamous and the current smash hit Who Goes.

BobMarleyLengendary.jpgJAMIE FOXX is set to play BOB MARLEY in a new biopic focusing on the reggae icon's early life. Film-maker RACHID BOUCHAREB is set to direct the project which is the brainchild of the ONE LOVE star's widow RITA. Bouchareb says, "I've always liked the story of what made Marley the man. "I want to look at him as a child through to a young man, and how he became interested in Africa."

Bob Marley His-story
In the year 1944, Captain Norval Marley married a young Jamaican girl named Cedalla Booker. On February 6, 1945 at two thirty in the morning their son, Robert Nesta Marley was born in his grandfather's house. Soon after Bob was born his father left his mother. He did however give financial support and occasionally returned to see his son.

It was now the late fifties, jobs were scarce in Jamaica, so Bob followed his mother from their home in St. Ann to Trenchtown (West Kingston) to seek employment in the big city. Trenchtown got it's name because it was built over a ditch which drained the sewage of old Kingston. In Trenchtown Bob spent a lot of his time with his good friend Neville Livingstone who people called by his nickname, Bunny.

SizzlaKalonji_YardFlexCarlingtonWilmotPhoto.jpg'Good Loving', a new collaborative effort between singer Angel Shalome and Sizzla Kalonji, looks set to become a staple at radio. The track, produced by Delroy 'Fatta' Pottinger, highlights the vocal capabilities of Angel, and features a scrumptious bout of toasting from Sizzla.

An honest _expression of true love, Good Loving stirs up memories of Dawn Penn's 90s hit, No No No. Early signs of the song's impact are evident with strong saturation on local airwaves.

Angel, whose video Where Were You enjoyed heavy rotation last year, was featured on the Ice Cube rhythm-laced Take it Off.

With the success of Sasha and Turbulance's We Got the Love, the doors have now been swung open to usher in similar recordings, and Good Loving might just be the next breakout from the batch.

tami_chynn_oe.jpgEven though technically, twenty-two-year-old Tami Chynn is a new artist, she's managed to hone her skills with some of the best. Before recording her solo album, Out of Many... One, which drops on Friday, June 30, she'd already appeared on tracks with Sean Paul, Beenie Man, and Lady Saw.

The singles will appear on a one-drop rhythm called 'Potential' which features singles like 'Makes No Sense' - Norris Man; 'Marijuana' - Tanto; 'Jus Caan Water We Down' - Richie Spice; 'Be Strong' - Sizzla;

"With the wedding being held on my birthday, this way, at least I won't forget our anniversary," Beenie Man quipped.

"A group of four men, one with a gun, the other with knives broke into the deejay's home at about 4 a.m. and ask, deejay, 'where the money yu bring back from foreign de?' They put him to lie down on his face, and proceeded to rob him.

Mr. Peppa seemed pretty pleased with the opportunity.
